Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Possess experience managing multiple cost centers and familiarity with capital and operating budgets.
  • Have experience using computers in a clinical environment.
  • Have strong interpersonal, written communication, oral communication, and organizational skills.
  • Hold a current registered nurse license.
Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, direct, coordinate, and evaluate the Operating Room/Anesthesia, Endoscopy/Bronch Lab, Pre-Operative Holding area, Post Anesthesia Care Unit, Pre-Admission Testing, One Day Surgery Unit, and Family Birthing Center departments.
  • Prepare departmental operations and capital equipment budgets and assist with planning and budgeting for Surgical and Ambulatory Services.
  • Supervise staffing issues and recruit and hire new staff.
  • Implement and revise department policies and procedures.
  • Direct annual staff performance evaluations.
  • Assist the Vice President and other Directors and Managers with strategic planning.
  • Oversee staffing, medical staff issues, and human resource management.
  • Implement and revise employee policies and procedures and complete required staff competency evaluations.
  • Standardize care in the Operating Room, Endoscopy Lab, and Family Birthing Center.
  • Co-manage ancillary support and Volunteer Services for peri-operative areas.
  • Participate in or lead projects such as Joint Commission activities, clinical leadership meetings, and quality improvement meetings.
  • Maintain departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality improvement activities, safety standards, environmental standards, and infection control standards.
  • Assist other Directors and Managers in designing new systems and redeploying staff.
  • Implement or support system research projects.
  • Collaborate with other Directors on facilities management.
  • Supervise scheduling for all departments in Surgical and Outpatient Services, addressing patient, staffing, and physician scheduling issues.
  • Collaborate with clinical Directors and Managers on planning, budgeting, and compiling reports.
  • Direct all staff education for Methodist Medical Center Surgical Services.
  • Perform process improvement activities and provide required clinical instruction to meet physician and patient needs.
  • Evaluate staffing patterns and competencies and match competency levels with clinical requirements.
  • Develop financial budgets and targets and work with other leaders to implement changes that achieve financial targets.
  • Act as liaison with finance and accounting, information systems, and other business directors.
  • Meet with system administrators, Methodist Medical Center vice presidents, and others for marketing, planning, implementation, tracking, and analysis.
  • Assist in resolving medical staff issues by providing data needed to analyze problems and develop solutions.
  • Collaborate with administration and medical staff to identify and improve efficiency for patients and physicians.
  • Supervise equipment maintenance to prevent breakdowns and accidents in surgery.
  • Identify opportunities and present proposals for process improvement in existing operations.
  • Maintain materials and supply budgets, manage charges, and standardize equipment and supplies where appropriate.
  • Develop physician profiles with comparative cost, utilization, and reimbursement information for specified products.
  • Follow policies, procedures, and safety standards; complete annual education assignments; work toward goals and objectives; and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
Desired Qualifications
  • A master's degree plus two years of managerial experience in a related field, or an equivalent combination of educational and managerial experience.
  • A bachelor's degree in nursing.
  • Five years of surgical department leadership experience.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn., Dec. 6, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- Each of Covenant Health's nine acute-care hospitals in East Tennessee has earned an 'A' hospital safety grade for Fall 2024 from The Leapfrog Group, marking the second consecutive semester all facilities achieved this top rating.
