We are looking for a Payroll Specialist to join and take ownership of BillionToOne’s payroll process from beginning to end. You will act as BillionToOne’s go-to-person for payroll related questions. This role will be responsible for timely processing of the company’s bi-weekly payroll as well as off-cycle payrolls. The ideal candidate will have multi-state payroll experience and great attention to detail. This position is ideally a hybrid role (2 days from our office in Menlo Park or Union City, CA) and will report to the Senior Payroll Manager.
Responsibilities:
- Acts as back-up to the Sr. Payroll Manager
- Ensure that bi-weekly payroll is processed accurately in a timely manner
- Process off-cycle payrolls as needed
- Ensure all payroll recons balance prior to retrieving approval for the Payroll
- Manage leave of absence and unpaid leave payroll processes for employees
- Ensure proper benefit deductions are being deducted for employees
- Work collaboratively with the People Ops team on all things related to payroll
- Provide reports to stakeholders
- Help with booking Accounting entries in the Sr. Payroll Manager’s absence
- Spend 20% of time performing other duties or special projects in Accounting as needed
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field
- 5+ years experience in Payroll
- Experience processing multi-state payroll (we’re currently in ~40 jurisdictions)
- Strong Excel skills (vlookup, pivot tables, etc.)
- Ability to work well under tight deadlines and have a high level of customer service to employees
- Experience with ADP WorkForceNow
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Start up experience preferred
- Experience with shift differentials preferred
