Assala Energy manages onshore oil and gas assets in Gabon, including five operated and four non-operated fields, a domestic pipeline network, and the Gamba Sud export terminal. It increases production by redeveloping mid-life and mature assets through disciplined investment and efficient operations, with production around 40,000 barrels per day in mid-2023. The company differentiates itself by acquiring mid-life assets, leveraging experienced leadership from the Shell transition and Carlyle-backed backing, and pursuing a scaled onshore platform. Its goal is to unlock further value in Gabon's onshore fields and to build a leading Gabonese onshore operator, with Maurel & Prom acquisition to create a larger platform.

In Gabon, Assala Energy successfully acquired Shell's onshore assets for $628 million.
Gunvor Group financed Gabon's acquisition of Carlyle Group's Assala Energy, a 45,000 barrel/day crude producer. Gabon's National Oil Company exercised a preemptive right to the assets after France’s Etablissements Maurel & Prom SA attempted to buy the company. This move follows a military coup that ousted Ali Bongo. Assala will enhance Gabon's control over its oil reserves and boost revenues. Gabon, an OPEC member, produces 220,000 barrels/day, with Assala contributing a fifth.
GOC acquires Assala Energy Gabon.
In August, Paris-based oil and gas exploration company Maurel & Prom announced the acquisition of Gabon-focused oil and gas company Assala Energy (United Kingdom) from global investment firm The Carlyle Group, based in Washington, DC.
The transaction will increase Maurel’s production to 67,800 boepd, it reported, of which 56,500 bpd will be in Gabon. The deal will also see Maurel take over a midstream network and the Gamba oil terminal.
