Requirements
  • A Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Chemistry, or Molecular Biology with appropriate expertise in discovering molecular, biochemical, or chemical mechanisms is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of scientific techniques are required.
  • Some experience running a laboratory, managing funded research projects, and/or supervising postdoctoral fellows is required.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are required.
  • Ability to work with diverse constituencies is required.
  • Computer literacy is required.
  • Successful academic and research work resulting in authorship and/or co-authorship of papers in peer-reviewed journals while serving as faculty and/or a scientist is required.
  • Ability to develop collaborative research projects consistent with a mentor’s research plan and contribute to scientific advances is required.
  • Ability to teach in a laboratory setting and/or through presentations of papers or seminars is required.
  • A successful record of research projects or funding and contributions to collaborative grant applications, or demonstrated ability to write competitive grants independently, is required.
  • Desire to move toward scientific independence through grant applications, development of independent research projects, or collaboration with scientists other than the primary mentor is required.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct, collaborate on, and manage scientific research and investigations while reporting to the Department Chair.
  • Participate in managing the daily operations of the laboratory.
  • Supervise, mentor, and manage postdoctoral fellows and graduate students engaged in collaborative research projects.
  • Develop research collaborations within the department, the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, and other University of Miami departments and schools.
  • Collect and analyze data.
  • Write and submit scientific papers and abstracts and submit grant proposals.
  • Present ongoing work and findings to colleagues and at academic and research conferences.
  • Participate in the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center Junior Development Program.
