Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • The employee must safely operate and pass the site Rail King and Rail Systems Training courses.
  • The employee must be able to think independently and make decisions in the company’s best interest.
  • The employee must have interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • The employee must be able to multitask and handle many activities simultaneously.
  • The employee must be able to work overtime, long hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • The employee must be able to perform physical labor, including lifting up to 55 pounds, moving up to 250 pounds, climbing ladders, operating control panels, and working with hand tools.
  • The employee must be able to use their fingers, handle or feel objects, reach with their hands and arms, and talk and hear.
  • The employee must have close and distance vision sufficient to read finely printed documents and safely identify objects or markings, including peripheral vision.
  • A Transportation Worker Identification Credential is required.
  • The employee must complete or possess Refinery Safety Overview Training Certification, Safety as it Pertains to Crafts Training Certification, Principles of Petroleum Refining Training Certification, Rail King certification, and Rail Systems Training Manual Certification.
  • The employee must be able to recognize onsite risk factors and take appropriate action with firmness and tact.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain consumable inventory control for hopper car loading operations, including seals, hatch cover filters, and outlet seals.
  • Coordinate, schedule, and supervise maintenance of loadout, wash, and rail department equipment.
  • Perform daily documented pellet control surveys, cleanup, and inspections.
  • Perform weekly rail scale inspections and verify car weights.
  • Inspect empty hopper cars before washing and wash hopper cars according to plant and ISO operational procedures.
  • Safely operate the vacuum system when a heel is present, the hopper car wash system, and the drying system.
  • Document proper washing procedures and update washed-car information in the plant distributed control system software program.
  • Load polypropylene production into hopper cars according to plant and ISO operational procedures.
  • Operate the loadout programmable logic controller computer and Fuller full-load system.
  • Confirm that clean-car railcar identification matches applicable seal numbers in the distributed control system software program.
  • Apply hatch bonnets, filters, and security seals and record tare and loaded hopper-car weights in the distributed control system software program.
  • Document proper loading procedures.
  • Manage, coordinate, supervise, and control railcar washing and loading activities and the staff assigned to loadout and washout facilities.
  • Verify and update track-walk reports and complete inbound and outbound daily inspection reports.
  • Update railcar log reports.
  • Safely plan, coordinate, and execute rail movements with the rail crew.
  • Communicate daily service updates with the local railroad, refinery rail crew, and operations as needed.
  • Coordinate with the transload team regarding railcars assigned to bulk trucking.
  • Oversee the assigned rail crew.
  • Participate in site safety programs and assist with external and internal site or company audits.
  • Perform essential rail functions in a safety-sensitive production environment around the process plant, transload yard, and railyard.
  • Work a four-day block rotation schedule on day or night shifts, subject to adjustment based on site workload and production schedules.
  • Support Operation Clean Sweep by preventing pellet, flake, and powder loss and ensuring spills are promptly cleaned.
