Requirements
  • Obtain the Oncology Data Specialist credential from the National Cancer Registrars Association within 36 months of the hire date or job transfer date.
  • Meet one of the stated education and experience pathways: high school diploma equivalency with two years of cumulative experience; current enrollment in or successful completion of an NCRA-accredited certificate program; an associate's or bachelor's degree; or four years of applicable cumulative job-specific experience.
Responsibilities
  • Screen disease indices, pathology reports, radiology reports, and other clinical documents to identify reportable cancer cases for case finding.
  • Perform primary data abstraction for oncology measures and registries while maintaining abstraction accuracy and alignment with organizational quality standards and oncology regulatory standards.
  • Maintain the long-term follow-up process for data collection and input for cancer registry patients.
  • Collect data for National Cancer Database special studies as required.
  • Adhere to Oncology Abstraction Training Program requirements.

  • Experience or specialization as a registrar specializing in tumors is preferred.
