Requirements
  • High school or GED graduation is required.
  • Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA, or ARMA is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Level II applicants must have at least 1 year of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting.
  • Level III applicants must have at least 3 years of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting.
  • Ability to lift heavy items and assist with transporting patients in stretchers or wheelchairs.
  • Knowledge of sterile techniques and procedures relevant to the work performed.
  • Familiarity with procedures for administering routine and special patient treatments.
  • Understanding of sanitation, personal hygiene, and basic health and safety practices for clinic environments.
  • Knowledge of infection control procedures and safety measures, with age-specific competency.
  • Ability to document and communicate information clearly while building effective relationships with patients and staff.
  • Ability to independently seek resources and work collaboratively with others.
Responsibilities
  • Collect medical histories, monitor vital signs, explain treatments to patients, and prepare patients for exams and procedures.
  • Assist medical staff, gather and prepare lab samples, conduct basic lab tests, perform electrocardiograms, remove sutures and staples, change dressings, educate patients and families about care, and document in records.
  • Dispose of contaminated supplies, process instruments, clean medical equipment, call in prescriptions, prepare and give medications as instructed by the doctor, and handle prescription refills.
  • Perform other clinical tasks as assigned by the doctor.
  • Greet patients, answer calls, schedule appointments including arrival in Maestro Care, check out patients, and handle referral scheduling.
  • Coordinate hospital admissions and lab services and update medical records.
  • Complete forms, receive copayments, collect balances, handle correspondence, and order supplies.
  • Assist with clinic activities such as Joint Commission or fall prevention efforts and participate in clinic committees.
Desired Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program is strongly preferred for Level I.
  • Graduation from a Medical Assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools is strongly preferred for Levels II and III.
  • Typing skills and knowledge of medical terminology are required for Levels II and III.
