Requirements
  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • A minimum of five years of communications experience, including at least three years of direct public-sector experience.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, public speaking, and media relations skills, with diplomacy and tact when dealing with sensitive or potentially provocative situations and information.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills and proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office and print-related applications.
  • Experience directly supervising and providing guidance to staff with varying levels of expertise.
  • Ability to primarily work in person at Parkland County Centre – 53109A HWY 779, Parkland County, Alberta.
  • A valid Class 5 driver's licence and current, satisfactory driver's abstract provided upon hire.
  • A satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required upon hire, excluding candidates under 18 and current Parkland County employees.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of communication and public engagement strategies for Parkland County.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Parkland County's communications efforts.
  • Supervise Communications Services staff.
  • Oversee Communications Services in providing support to internal departments.
  • Coordinate communications planning and implementation.
  • Strategically manage emergent issues.
  • Coordinate communications initiatives.
  • Produce communication materials, tools, and resources.
Desired Qualifications
  • International Association of Business Communicators or Canadian Public Relations Society qualification.
