Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited school of Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
  • 5 years for support or 0-2 years for professional work experience.
  • Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
Responsibilities
  • Operates ultrasonic equipment to produce images of the body's organs and tissues for diagnostic purposes.
  • Performs sonographic examinations to locate, evaluate and record critical functional, pathological, and anatomical data.
  • Records test results, inspects and maintains equipment, and orders supplies when needed.
  • Reviews physician requisition orders and instructions concerning patient preparation for ultrasound procedure.
  • May communicate to OB/GYN nursing team status of patient condition pre and post procedure.
  • Performs ultrasound imaging for fetal diagnosis and anomaly detection for patients with high risk indications.
