Requirements
  • Engineers should have a minimum of 2 years of experience and occupational health experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering is preferred, but equivalent work experience will be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Strong understanding of 29 CFR 1910
  • Engineers should have experience in reviewing technical data packages and engineering drawings; conducting design reviews with respect to ADA, NFPA, ASHRAE, and/or ANSI compliance; and providing input for hazard identification and mitigation
  • A licensed engineer is preferred but not required
  • Have or be able to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience with explosives safety is preferred but not required
Responsibilities
  • Participate in hazard analyses of manufacturing operations, review standard operating procedures (SOPs), analyze process-start-up documentation, and develop other technical documentation
  • Support/manage safety and occupational health programs
  • Support/participate in program compliance audits by outside organizations
  • Serve as a key safety reviewer for process manufacturing start-up and approval
  • Perform walkthroughs and safety and health inspections of manufacturing areas, storage facilities, test ranges, laboratories, and administrative spaces; document any recommendations
  • Recommend procedures for detection, prevention, detection, and elimination of physical, chemical, or other product/process hazards
  • Track the status of open actions using databases or spreadsheets
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with other stakeholders internal to and external to the design team (e.g., engineering department, manufacturing department)
  • Review, update, and present training on safety and occupational health topics
  • Support mishap and incident investigations
  • Maintain compliance with Federal, Navy, and local policies
  • Review facility designs and manufacturing processes (e.g., controls, schematics, and structural drawings) for compliance with energetic requirements
  • Experience working with AutoCAD and SolidWorks
  • Experience in industrial manufacturing and explosives operations is preferred but not required
