Principal Mechanical Engineer - Robots
Job Description

The prospective candidate will be a Senior Engineer responsible for the technical leadership of major robotics and automation development projects, and for applications engineering, development of new products/extensions and sustaining engineering on robots used for material handling in semiconductor or similar capital equipment industries.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Applications Engineering
- Working with marketing, sales and customer on new robot opportunities
- Determine best products to work within customer requirements
- Define requirements specifications and develop engineering design specifications
- Meet with customers on DIW opportunities, issue resolution
- Occasional travel to customer to review application and opportunity
Product Extensions and New Product Development
- Work with product management to define new product extension requirements per strategic plan and engineering design specifications
- Continuous Improvement
- Support and plan work for improving products
- Use quality data to determine CIP plans
- Sustaining engineering - manage part obsolescence and supplier issues
- Lead cost reduction opportunities.
Project Engineering
- Responsible for generating project plans and working with program management on cross functional resources.
- Responsible for determining resource requirements
- Manage and track engineering tasks
WHAT YOU WILL BRING:
Requirements:
- BSME (MSME preferred) and 10+ years in robotics or automated machine design including the integration of electronics, firmware and motion control.
- Must have demonstrated expertise in engineering fundamentals with 3+ years of project management and leadership experience.
- Experience selecting and working with key suppliers and outsource partners.
- Proven ability to develop new products from concept through production using a stage gate development process.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully lead multi-disciplinary teams to accomplish aggressive goals.
- Experience working directly with customers with applications of highly technical and complex products
- Ability to complete static, dynamic, vibration, structural and thermal analysis.
- Expert in bearing/motion component selection and design.
- Expertise in electro-mechanical precision machine design with embedded software and controls
- Expertise in selecting motors, sensors and other electrical components used in robotics and automated machinery.
- Experience with DFx including reliability and cost.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and prioritization skills.
- Experience with Solid Modeling and Finite Element Analysis and MS Project required
- Expertise in application of robotics used for automated material handling.
- System layout and throughput analysis experience
Preferred:
- Experience with ProE, Mechanica, Agile and Oracle preferred.
- Experience in semiconductor capital equipment or adjacent markets is preferred
- Experience specifying SW and Controls requirements is a plus
