  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Graduate from Medical Assistant educational program or equivalent program
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant experience required
  • Approved Medical Assistant Certifications: CMA - Certified Medical Assistant - American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), RMA - Registered Medical Assistant - American Medical Technologists (AMT), CCMA - Certified Clinical Medical Assistant - National Healthcare Association (NHA), NCMA - National Certified Medical Assistant (NHA - NCCT), NRCMA - Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NAHP)
  • Additional certificates of completion: Specialty Certification relevant to present position
  • Active American Heart Association Basic Life Support for healthcare providers
  • HIV & AIDS Certification: Florida HIV/AIDS Healthcare Professional Continue Education Certification
  • Completion of Clinical Preceptor Workshop for Clinical Staff (Non-Nurses)

Responsibilities
  • Provides overall care with loving kindness as a member of the team
  • Utilizes creative methods to support patient’s individual needs and respect patient’s spiritual beliefs, faith, and practices
  • Encourages patients to speak honestly about their feelings; creates a safe environment for healing physically and spiritually
  • Establishes a trusting relationship with patient and family; identifies and manages discomforts; provides emotional support
  • Prioritizes and integrates multiple requests and work expectations; performs tasks timely and safely
  • Communicates clearly and in a timely manner to patient, family, and team members
  • Participates in unit/clinic programs, meetings, and clinical preceptor program; contributes to positive morale; uses conflict resolution skills
  • Learns and utilizes technology resources for communication, documentation, and information regarding clinical situations, diagnosis, and treatments
  • Attains educational knowledge and competencies reflecting current clinical practice
  • Maintains compliance with State and Federal regulatory guidelines including HIPAA
  • Meets diverse communication needs of patients with Limited English Proficiency
  • Performs professionally within clinical scope of practice; incorporates protocols and standards of care
  • Accepts and provides focused constructive feedback and guidance with loving kindness for growth and self-esteem
  • Adheres to standards for ethical behavior and privacy of patient information
  • Assists providers with physical examinations by preparing treatment/exam room with supplies
  • Understands importance of medical and surgical asepsis; prepares patients for physician’s care
  • Performs routine laboratory tests; perform vital signs, EKG, phlebotomy; document in medical record
  • Observes and reports patient signs or symptoms changes
  • Administers medication safely as directed by the physician; assists in patient care activities
  • Escorts and transports patients to hospital locations
  • Cleans and/or sterilizes medical instruments; observes sterile technique
  • Schedules patients for tests and completes required forms for lab work
  • Provides patient with provider’s care instructions and information
  • Maintains accurate and complete patient records and documentation; orders, stocks, inventories supplies; assists in clerical duties
  • Adheres to University policies and safeguards assets
  • Note: Designee in charge assigns functions; physician reviews competencies
  • Medical Assistants 3 in hospital-based units will not perform any medication administration
