Job Description:
The Process Improvement Manager leads process improvement activities within the Revenue Service Center (RSC), helps design process automation solutions, and supports implementation of optimized workflows, structures and solutions. Supports all areas of the Revenue Cycle, including Front End (Pre-Access and Patient Access), Mid-Cycle (Revenue Integrity and Chargemaster), Backend (HB & PB Billing, Collections & Follow-up, and Cash Posting), and Customer Service / Financial Counseling / Self-Pay in order to optimize performance and help the RSC achieve its business objectives and stewardship goals.
Scope
This is a regional role that interfaces with all levels of Intermountain Health including senior management, vice presidents, and any other caregivers involved in performing or supporting revenue cycle activities. The position partners with numerous regional and enterprise-wide teams including Finance, HR, Digital Technology Services (DTS), Care Management, Medical Group, and Hospital Clinical Operations.
Job Essentials
- Works with process owners and stakeholders to document, maintain, and analyze process flows across all Revenue Cycle functions
- Identifies opportunities and solutions to improve operational performance/quality/efficiency, enhance the patient experience, increase caregiver engagement, eliminate waste, and/or maximize revenue capture
- Analyzes financial, productivity, performance, and quality data to identify root cause problems and define solutions to improve metrics performance
- Collaborates with or leads cross-functional teams using process improvement tools (e.g: problem solving, Lean, etc.), or project management principles in order to identify and/or implement process improvement solutions
- Partners with Digital Technology Solutions resources to prioritize, design, and implement intelligent automation solutions including Robotic Process Automation, Generative AI, and/or Machine Learning as needed
- Creates and maintains process design documents to support development of robotic process automation bots
- Facilitates process improvement sessions with varying levels of complexity and participation to document current state, identify gaps/risks, and develop future state solutions
- Champions continuous process improvement culture within the RSC
- Leverages best practices from industry groups and identifies ways to apply practices to the RSC
- Promotes mission, vision, and values of Intermountain Health, and abides by service behavior standards
- Manages special programs, projects, and other duties as assigned by supervisor
- Manage team of caregivers responsible for the delivery and implementation of process improvement solutions
- Participates in check-ins for performance for assigned caregivers each quarter
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Deep understanding / expertise of end-to-end revenue cycle operations
- Experience in process analysis, documentation, and optimization
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to facilitate communications between diverse groups
- Ability to effectively identify, assess and facilitate improvements, recommendations and solutions
- Effective critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills
- Strong quantitative and analytical abilities to process and display data
- Self-starter with proven ability to organize and follow through multiple complex tasks and projects simultaneously
Minimum Qualifications (required)
- Bachelor’s degree
- 3 years healthcare experience
- 1 year experience in the application of Performance Improvement methods (e.g. Lean, Six Sigma, PDSA)
Preferred Qualifications
- Lean and/or Six Sigma Green Belt certification
- 5 years experience in the application of Performance Improvement methods (e.g. Lean, Six Sigma, PDSA)
- 5 years of leading Process Improvement Initiatives within an Epic based Health Care system
- 3 years experience with end-to-end Revenue Cycle Management

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.
$43.67 - $67.41
