Requirements
  • A Bachelor's Degree or above in Computer Science or a related field.
  • At least 8 years of experience in software engineering, including at least 4 years in a Solution Architect, Principal Engineer, or equivalent technical leadership role designing and delivering complex, distributed production systems.
  • Expertise with Java, Spring Boot, and reactive programming in large-scale production environments.
  • Experience designing, building, and operating GraphQL APIs, including schema design, authorization, performance optimization, pagination, caching strategies, and resolver or federation patterns.
  • Experience with event-driven architecture and Apache Kafka in production, including topics, partitions, consumer groups, exactly-once processing, schema registry, Avro, Protobuf, dead-letter queues, and integration or messaging patterns.
  • Experience with relational databases, including PostgreSQL, NoSQL databases, Redis caching strategies, and data modeling for distributed, eventually consistent systems.
  • Ability to design offline-first or hybrid online/offline mobile architectures, including synchronization strategies, conflict resolution, and Backend-for-Frontend patterns.
  • Knowledge of security architecture in distributed systems and resilience and observability patterns.
  • Experience with containerization, container orchestration, and cloud-native deployment practices on AWS.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code and GitOps workflows.
  • Experience rapidly prototyping architectural options and making data-driven technology decisions.
  • Verbal and written communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Responsibilities
  • Partner with engineering and product teams to define scalable, maintainable microservices architecture using domain-driven design and distributed systems principles.
  • Design and implement event-driven architectures with Apache Kafka or similar technologies, including asynchronous messaging, event sourcing, sagas, schema management, and service integration.
  • Define architecture for mobile and backend integration, including data modeling, offline synchronization, conflict resolution, Backend-for-Frontend patterns, and API design.
  • Standardize containerization with Docker across development, staging, and production environments.
  • Deploy and manage applications on Kubernetes to ensure scalability, resilience, and high availability.
  • Design and deploy cloud-native solutions on AWS using EKS, EC2, S3, RDS or Aurora, Lambda, and API Gateway.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or AWS CDK or CloudFormation to automate provisioning and support GitOps.
  • Establish best practices for security, resilience, observability, and operational excellence across microservices and event-driven systems.
  • Ensure architectures meet security, compliance, and HIPAA requirements through encryption, access controls, audit logging, and secure configurations.
  • Prototype and validate architectural solutions through spikes and proofs of concept to reduce risk and align with business goals.
  • Lead architecture reviews, threat modeling, and code reviews to ensure architectural standards, performance, and security.
  • Create and maintain architectural documentation, including ADRs, C4 diagrams, data flow diagrams, runbooks, and technical guidance.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align technical strategies, roadmaps, and objectives.
  • Contribute to technology evaluations, tool selection, and the evolution of the platform toward well-structured, domain-driven, event-driven microservices.
  • Support onboarding and enablement of engineering teams on architectural patterns, tools, and platform standards.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous experience in highly regulated industries with strict data privacy requirements.
  • PostgreSQL experience is strongly preferred.

ARC-One Solutions develops and implements a BECS platform to manage the U.S. blood supply and acts as the software manufacturer for an FDA 510(k)–cleared medical device used by major blood centers like the American Red Cross and OneBlood. The BECS platform processes high volumes of blood products across the country, with supporting materials and services to help partners deploy the system, while RSA remains in use during the transition. It differentiates itself as a purpose-built technology provider created by and for large blood centers, built on deep domain expertise and regulatory know-how.
