Engines: This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight.

As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers (use as appropriate), you will help design and develop rocket engines and propulsion systems that meet Blue Origin’s launch vehicle program requirements.  As an Avionics Mechanical Design & Analysis Engineer, you will design avionics packaging solutions for high reliability in harsh environments.  You will participate in the entire design cycle of flight and mission critical avionics.  You will work with the electrical engineering team to design rugged printed circuit board systems.  You will work with the engine systems team to integrate controllers onto the engines.  You will complete thermal and structural analyses of these designs.  You will create engineering drawings and manage the product configuration of the integrated designs through the product lifecycle.  You will create test plans and manage testing and qualification of the product.

To be successful in this role you will need to be able to function in a cross disciplinary team and a dynamic design environment.  You need to support electronics development and trade studies, and create interface definition, specification, and control documents.  You must be able to validate requirements through design, test, analysis, or inspection.  You will need to plan and conduct tests, review and interpret data. You must be able to create installation drawings and support engine builds.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
• 5+ years of experience as a mechanical design engineer
• 2+ years of experience with structural and thermal analysis
• Experience with FEA tools (ANSYS preferred)
• Excellent understanding of structural analysis/mechanics
• Working knowledge of 3D CAD programs (Creo Pro/E preferred)
• Experience with GD&T implementation and analysis (ASME Y14.5)
• Ability to work effectively in teams
• Ability to be self-directed and balance several tasks at one time
• Ability to communicate analysis results effectively
• Experience designing ruggedized electronics enclosures or similar high-performance hardware
• Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
• Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Desired:

• Experience with Creo, Windchill, ANSYS
• Experience with fatigue analysis and fracture mechanics (hand calcs, NASGRO, VCCT, etc.)
• Familiarity with aerospace industry standard structural analysis methods (Bruhn, Marks’, Shigley, Sherlock)
