The School of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Capella University seeks an innovative, collaborative academic leader to serve as assistant program director of counselor education.
This role will support the program director in providing leadership for the MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and MS in School Counseling. Specific oversight of program area(s) or program function(s) within counselor education may be assigned.
Summary of Responsibilities:
The Assistant Program Director (APD), Counselor Education is a key leadership position within the university. They promote and support a quality academic experience for learners by creating and maintaining an engaging learning environment. The APD has responsibility for program outcomes, performance of core faculty, and and learner success.
The Assistant Program Director, working closely with Program Director (PD), takes an active role in oversight of curricula quality and rigor, and works to ensure curricula are professionally relevant, current, efficient, effective, and cohesive. This position contributes to a range of activities related to excellence in curriculum design/delivery and assessment effectiveness, learner success, satisfaction and engagement. They work closely with PDs, core faculty, assistant/associate deans, and faculty directors, as well as relevant university departments, to manage systems and processes related to program governance, external alignments, curriculum delivery, and coordinate with the relevant faculty directors to remain aware of issues related to faculty. The APD acts as a liaison to other departments including Course Development, Center for Faculty Excellence, Accreditation and Institutional Effectiveness, Learner Appeals & Resolutions, Site-Based Learning, and others as required.
Specific job responsibilities include the following:
Oversee curriculum development according to external standards and in alignment with university design principles; supervision of SME course development and leadership.
Utilize analytics and evidence-based practices to execute actions that drive continuous quality improvement application in learner success, teaching, engagement, academic quality, and curricula development.
Coordinate, analyze, and address trends related to learner academic honesty working closely with learner affairs.
Advise the PD to maintain alignment between academic offerings and professional trends and standards, while seeking professional validation wherever possible (in the way of credentials, licensure, alignment with existing or emerging standards/programmatic requirements, etc.)
Contribute to specialized accreditation processes, self-study, etc.; ensure alignment to HLC best practices in university faculty oversight of curriculum.
Serve as liaison with multiple internal cross functional partners.
Address learner programmatic issues (academic, professional dispositions, behaviors).
Teach or mentor as assigned.
All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
An earned doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision, preferably from a CACREP-accredited program; or, employment as a full-time faculty member in a counselor education program for a minimum of one academic year prior to July 1, 2013.
Current and active license as a mental health counselor or license/certification as a school counselor.
Ability to travel as needed (up to 10%) for residencies, commencement, external representation, or other activities several times per year for up to a week at a time.
Meet and adhere to CACREP Standard 1.Z to participate in professional activities, scholarly activities, and service to the profession identifying with the counseling profession through each of the following: 1. have sustained memberships in professional counseling organizations; 2. relevant professional counseling credentials; and 3. show evidence of sustained professional engagement through at least two of the following: a) professional development and renewal activities related to counseling, b) professional service and advocacy in counseling, c) ongoing counseling practice, or d) research and scholarly activity in counseling
Experience:
A minimum of three years of experience teaching in a counselor education program, preferably in an online delivery format.
A minimum of three year of experience practicing as a mental health counselor or school counselor.
Evidence of successful teaching and clinical supervision experience in an online environment.
Evidence of supporting learner success through data-drive, collaborative decision-making.
Familiarity with accreditation standards and processes, particularly CACREP.
Prior experience providing leadership within a counselor education program, particularly oversight of curriculum and assessment, preferred.
Experience leading and supervising remote faculty preferred.
