Requirements
  • An Associate’s degree in Medical Technology, Nursing, or a related field, or two years of related experience in a physician’s office, clinic, and/or hospital, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certification or registration as a Medical Technologist is required.
  • Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of Current Procedural Terminology and International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision code reference books.
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills and the ability to speak clearly.
  • Skill in assisting with a variety of treatments and medications as directed.
  • Skill in taking vital signs.
  • Skill in maintaining records and recording test results.
  • Ability to follow established priorities or procedures and deliver quality customer service.
  • Ability to use good judgment, make sound decisions, and behave with tact, decorum, and diplomacy.
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to read, understand, and respond to oral and written instructions.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare patients for medical appointments, including obtaining and recording patients’ vital signs.
  • Prepare instruments and equipment for examinations and medical or surgical procedures.
  • Assist Physicians with examinations and medical procedures.
  • Clean and dress wounds and remove sutures as requested by a Physician.
  • Observe patients and report adverse reactions to medication or treatment to the medical personnel in charge.
  • Collect physician-taken samples for testing and deliver them to the laboratory.
  • Clean, disinfect, and sterilize materials, instruments, equipment, rooms, and supplies.
  • Inventory and requisition supplies.
  • Review patient charts for instructions regarding prescriptions, tests, follow-up appointments, and patient testing procedures.
  • Schedule patients for follow-up testing procedures.
  • Obtain pre-certification or authorization for surgical procedures and admissions.
  • Assist in locating and filing records.
  • Retrieve laboratory reports, dictations, x-rays, and correspondence, and file and maintain orderly records.
  • Provide patient education and instruction as directed by the Physician, including preparation for procedures and in-home care.
  • Answer telephone calls, take messages, and provide routine information in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintain knowledge of and comply with established policies and procedures.
  • Maintain the work area in a neat and orderly manner.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
