Requirements
  • At least one year of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to gain industry knowledge and training.

  • Reliable transportation allowing travel to multiple work locations with minimal notice.

  • Ability to walk, sit, stand, bend, stoop, reach, lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 25 pounds; strong fine motor skills and full use of the hands; visual and auditory acuity; and occasional driving or climbing.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with monitoring vital signs and transporting patients.
  • Maintain aseptic technique and identify breaks in technique.
  • Care for contaminated items appropriately.
  • Stock operating-room supplies and maintain adequate surgical-supply inventory.
  • Check equipment such as sterilizers and refrigerator temperatures each surgical day and document the results.
  • Assist in preoperative assessment and post-operative instruction review.
  • Discontinue Hep-Locks.
  • Perform fingerstick blood sugar testing and document results in the medical record.
  • Assist physicians during laser procedures.
  • Report pertinent patient observations and reactions to nurses or physicians.
  • Identify patient and family teaching needs and initiate interventions.
  • Assist with or initiate emergency measures for sudden adverse developments in a patient's condition.
  • Monitor inventory levels according to desired quantities.
  • Attend departmental meetings and in-service education and maintain ongoing professional practice education.
  • Use supplies and medications economically and keep equipment clean and safe.
  • Work under the direct supervision of the nurse.
Desired Qualifications
  • Current Certified Ophthalmic Assistant certification.
  • Current Certified Ophthalmic Technician certification.
