Requirements
  • A minimum of 3 years of underwriting experience in directors and officers liability lines, with demonstrated expertise in directors and officers insurance, employment practices liability, fiduciary liability, and crime insurance.
  • Postsecondary education and one or more relevant professional insurance designations are assets.
  • Advanced knowledge of underwriting concepts, practices, and procedures in the directors and officers liability industry, including complex account structures.
  • Demonstrated ability to profitably grow and retain a directors and officers liability book of business.
  • Ability to work independently, with proven analytical skills and a solution-oriented approach to profitable growth.
  • Critical-thinking ability and a growth mindset, with thoughtful consideration of diverse perspectives and respect for differences.
  • Ability to give and receive positive and constructive feedback respectfully.
  • Ability to manage internal and external meetings professionally and clearly while promoting mutual accountability for results.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure profitable growth of a broad portfolio through quality risk selection and strong relationships with brokers working in financial and professional services.
  • Make a significant contribution to team profitability and new-business acquisition while meeting or exceeding individual objectives.
  • Lead discussions with key external partners about market conditions and provide team coaching on communicating difficult messages.
  • Share recommendations on portfolio optimization and profitable-growth strategy at regional and national levels.
  • Understand policy wording and endorsements, including their impact in the event of a claim.
  • Use a solutions-oriented underwriting approach, including creative ideas to generate profitable business.
  • Regularly and effectively lead broker and client meetings and be recognized as an expert in financial and professional services.
  • Support, coach, and advise other employees on business development, sales skills, and relationship management.
  • Coach and guide colleagues in planning, time management, productivity, and effectiveness.
  • Act as the primary source of reference for other team members.
  • Lead by example within the team to ensure a positive Liberty experience for key brokers and clients.
  • Research industry best practices and trends to support continuous improvement and early adoption of new systems and processes.
  • Improve general underwriting knowledge through regular publications and comments on Teams and active participation in team meetings.
  • Advocate Liberty's inclusion values and guidelines to foster a culture of exceptional service.
  • Challenge the status quo in management liability, focusing on underwriting-process efficiency and simplifying the external process of doing business with Liberty Mutual Canada.
  • Develop diversity, equity, and inclusion knowledge and adopt new skills, process changes, and policy changes.
  • Recommend and implement new ideas to achieve better business results, focusing on an inspiring culture, customer centricity, and a first-class operating model.
  • Provide opinions on Liberty's future hiring decisions.
  • Lead account-rounding efforts by upselling additional coverage during renewals.
  • Create and execute prospecting initiatives for the management-liability practice within financial and professional services.
  • Maintain proper organization and relevant documentation for each underwriting file.
  • Perform related duties, including preparing reports, presentations, and special projects that contribute to business success.
