Westmag designs and manufactures drone motors and robot actuators in the United States, starting with Factory 01 in South San Francisco. It automates winding, assembly, and testing on an integrated production platform to produce core motion components—the “muscle” of physical AI—for drones, humanoid robots, and other autonomous systems. The company differentiates itself by onshoring production and vertically integrating design, manufacturing, and the supply chain, including upstream subcomponents, to reduce dependence on foreign parts and improve cost control. Its goal is to scale production to hundreds of thousands to millions of motors and actuators annually for domestic and allied customers, while expanding a standardized product catalog for both high- and low-volume buyers.

What believers are saying

  • Westmag says production is already ramping, with hundreds of thousands of units on order.
  • The August 26, 2026 website shows active testing and ongoing production.
  • EU Motors and Modal Motors expanding U.S. factories validate domestic motor demand in 2026.

What critics are saying

  • EU Motors opened Florida production in February 2026, compressing Westmag's domestic pricing window.
  • Westmag remains seed-funded while Factory 01 ramps, creating an execution deadline before follow-on capital.
  • If defense and robotics orders slip, Westmag faces existential cash burn before scale.

What makes Western Magnetics unique

  • Westmag vertically integrates design, winding, assembly, and validation in South San Francisco Factory 01.
  • June 2, 2026 seed from a16z, Founders Fund, Lux Capital, NFDG, Menlo validates demand.
  • Westmag targets domestic drone motors and robot actuators, cutting reliance on foreign components.
