Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • June 15, 2026 navacaprant failure forced focus onto NMRA-511, 898, and 215.
  • July 27, 2026 NMRA-215 toxicology cleared and IND submission targets Q4 2026.
  • Neumora still guides cash runway into Q3 2027 after a 35% workforce cut.

What critics are saying

  • Navacaprant's June 2026 Phase 3 collapse destroys Neumora's lead asset and credibility.
  • NMRA-898 remains Phase 1; any late-2026 miss leaves Neumora without a clinic-ready franchise.
  • Q3 2027 cash runway is existential if NMRA-511, NMRA-898, or NMRA-215 stall.

What makes Neumora unique

  • NMRA-511's 2026 Alzheimer's agitation signal supports a differentiated V1aR precision bet.
  • NMRA-898 offers a once-daily M4 PAM schizophrenia program with 80-100-hour half-life.
  • NMRA-215 targets obesity through a brain-penetrant NLRP3 inhibitor, not another GLP-1.

Neumora discontinues navacaprant after Phase 3 trial failures, cuts workforce by 35%

Neumora Therapeutics announced its Phase 3 KOASTAL-2 and -3 studies of navacaprant for major depressive disorder failed to achieve primary or key secondary endpoints. The company is discontinuing navacaprant development and reducing its workforce by approximately 35%, resulting in $10 million in annualised cost savings. Neumora is refocusing on its clinical portfolio, including NMRA-511 for Alzheimer's disease agitation, NMRA-898 for schizophrenia and NMRA-215 for cardiometabolic disease. The company expects to complete several studies and initiate new clinical trials by year-end 2026. Following the restructuring, which will incur approximately $2 million in one-time costs, Neumora expects its current cash to provide runway into the third quarter of 2027. The KOASTAL studies enrolled 852 patients, with navacaprant showing similar efficacy to placebo.

Neumora raises $182.5M, extends cash runway to Q3 2027 despite Alzheimer's drug delays

Neumora Therapeutics has reported a cash position of $182.5 million in cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities as of 31 December 2025, expected to support operations into the third quarter of 2027. The company's net loss for 2025 was comparable to 2024. Neumora announced positive Phase Ib results for NMRA-511 in Alzheimer's disease agitation and has fully enrolled KOASTAL-2 and KOASTAL-3 studies for navacaprant, with data expected in the second quarter of 2026. The company also reported promising data for NMRA-898 in schizophrenia and class-leading weight loss results for NMRA-215. However, unexpected adverse findings in a rat toxicology study for NMRA-215 have delayed clinical trials until the first quarter of 2027.
