  • High School Graduate/GED/Equivalent Work
  • Vocational / Technical School / Diploma Program
  • CT Board of Pharmacy Technician registration
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) with PTCB
  • Minimum 2 years of hospital experience, including IV compounding
  • Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing
  • Valid License
  • Standard Office Equipment (Phone, Fax, Copy Machine, Scanner, Email/Voice Mail)
  • Standard Office Technology in a Window based environment
Responsibilities
  • Review prescriptions to assure accuracy, to ascertain the needed ingredients, and to evaluate their suitability
  • Compounds medications, chemotherapy and biotherapy using proper aseptic technique
  • Assess the identity, strength, or purity of medications
  • Properly handle and dispose of hazardous drugs and waste materials following OSHA and NIOSH guidelines
  • Perform mathematical calculations to determine appropriate drug measurements for compounding of ordered medications
  • Plan, implement, or maintain procedures for missing, packaging, or labeling pharmaceuticals, according to policy and legal requirements, to ensure quality, security, and proper disposal
  • Enter and remove medications into and from the Nucleus System
  • Conduct routine medication inventories including monitoring for drugs expiring, and assist with inventory control of medications in the infusion room, storage room and satellite locations
  • Assist in ordering supplies and medication. Receive and restock medications
  • Maintain any necessary QA logs, including (but not limited to) cleaning logs, temperature logs, waste logs, expired and destroyed medication logs, and others
  • Participate in training and orientation of new employees as needed
  • Comply with the Summit Health incident reporting policy and procedures
  • Adhere to all OSHA and Summit Health training and accomplishments as required per policy
  • Provide other job duties as assigned
  • Report issues and concerns to supervising pharmacist and manager in a timely manner
  • Follow the established EPIC/Beacon Workflow
  • Updates price uploads from Oncology Supply into QS/1
  • Maintains inventory in QS/1
  • Ordering of drugs and supplies
  • Runs reports for appropriate daily logs needed to be signed by pharmacist
  • Maintains files of prescriptions in order of date processed, including refill logs
  • Audits prescriptions on a weekly basis
  • Maintains signatures from patients picking up their prescriptions
  • Maintains Medicare Fraud, Waste, and Abuse guidelines and procedures
  • Collects payments of copays from patients
  • Properly handle and dispose of hazardous drugs and waste materials following OSHA and NIOSH guidelines.
  • Plan, implement, or maintain procedures for missing, packaging, or labeling pharmaceuticals, according to policy and legal requirements, to ensure quality, security, and proper disposal.
  • Conduct routine medication inventories including monitoring for drugs expiring, and assist with inventory control of medications in the dispensary.

Walgreens Continues Efforts To Divest Healthcare Clinic Chain Villagemd

Walgreens Boots Alliance-backed healthcare clinic chain VillageMD is reportedly working with advisers to explore a sale, restructuring or other options. This move comes after Walgreens CEO Tim Wentworth said during a January earnings call that the company plans to divest VillageMD, Bloomberg reported Wednesday (Feb. 12). A Walgreens spokesperson told Bloomberg that Walgreens “is continuing to work toward executing its stated goal of securing an endpoint for its investment in VillageMD, consistent with Walgreens’ turnaround strategy.”

Earlier this year, Walgreens Boots Alliance said it may sell its entire stake in VillageMD, which has already cost the drugstore giant billions of dollars, the drugstore giant has disclosed in the last year. Walgreens Boots AllianceTim Barry is leaving as chief executive officer of VillageMD, the clinic operator that has cost its majority owner, Walgreens Boots Alliance, billions of dollars in losses.VillageMD confirmed Wednesday afternoon in a statement that Barry “has stepped down as CEO and Board Chair.” Barry founded VillageMD in 2013, but the Chicago-based company has since struggled to fill its clinics attached to Walgreens with patients and has scaled back dramatically on the expansion of doctor practices it manages and Village Medical clinics the company opened attached to Walgreens.“The Board has appointed VillageMD Chief Operations Officer Jim Murray to serve as Interim Chief Executive Officer,” VillageMD said in its brief statement. “Effective immediately, Murray assumes day-to-day leadership responsibilities to ensure a smooth transition and continuity of care.
