Requirements
  • A Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university is required.
  • Six to ten years of relevant biopharmaceutical or chemical manufacturing experience in mechanical engineering is required.
  • Knowledge of design standards and codes.
  • Knowledge, application, and specification of materials.
  • Development of piping material and material procurement specifications.
  • Knowledge of good design practices for sizing all piping systems.
  • Ability to specify criteria for and select piping specialty items.
  • Knowledge of manual valve sizing, use, and application.
  • Ability to identify the need for, apply, and specify safety valves and devices to maintain the mechanical integrity of process and utility systems.
  • Ability to identify the need for, apply, and specify steam traps and liquid drainers.
  • Ability to estimate mechanical and piping construction quantities from conceptual documents.
  • Knowledge of other disciplines' deliverable development to ensure coordination of design efforts.
  • Knowledge and understanding of schedule constraints and information requirements for producing all mechanical deliverables.
  • Ability to accurately estimate completion of assigned tasks.
  • Ability to develop a man-hour budget and schedule for the discipline scope of a project.
  • Ability to determine construction material quantities.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply company engineering design standards.
  • Ability to lead a small team to deliver on commitments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work virtually and develop cross-divisional relationships and provide interoffice execution leadership and support.

  • The selected candidate must be authorized to work in the United States.
Responsibilities
  • Perform conceptual through detailed design for manufacturing facilities in the biopharmaceutical and specialty chemical industries.
  • Coordinate and specify upstream and downstream process equipment and collaborate with all engineering disciplines.
  • Support procurement of process systems through technical reviews, equipment inspection, and construction support.
  • Apply ASME BPE standards, FDA/GMP compliance requirements, and other international standards in an engineering environment.
  • Provide on-site assistance during startup as needed.
  • Perform engineering activities including construction specifications, material procurement specifications, calculations, and piping estimates.
  • Develop conceptual layouts and cost studies to determine efficient approaches to engineering tasks.
  • Produce estimate-level preliminary designs and material take-offs appropriate to the project estimate.
  • Produce detailed design calculations and sketches for project construction materials.
  • Assist the drafting group in resolving routine layout and detailing problems by providing sketches and details needed to complete engineering drawings.
  • Consult with design leaders from other disciplines to coordinate information needed for scheduled project completion.
  • Review and check vendor drawings and other discipline drawings for mechanical input.
  • Advise the senior engineer on identified design or scope changes.
  • Assist engineers in assembling scopes, drawings, and specifications into packages for mechanical purchase inquiries and procurement of equipment, materials, or subcontract pricing.
  • Develop construction specifications.
  • Review fabrication drawings and construction submittals for conformance to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Perform fieldwork to gather field data, check tie-ins, and provide construction support.
  • Provide technical guidance to less experienced drafting and engineering personnel.
  • Apply discipline-specific methods, practices, and techniques to engineer, design, and construct process and manufacturing projects.
  • Recognize and communicate scope and design changes promptly.
  • Coordinate work activities with teammates and the discipline lead.
  • Apply advanced engineering techniques and analysis to complex designs.
  • Identify and develop work-sharing packages for interoffice execution support.
  • Provide leadership to ensure communication and execution of work within scope, schedule, and budget.
Desired Qualifications
  • Professional Engineering registration is highly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Revit and Plant 3D is preferred; the role will be responsible for reviewing their capabilities.
