Requirements
  • A valid Colorado Department of Education Authorization for educational sign language interpreting is required.
  • An Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment score of 3.5 or higher is required.
  • An associate degree program in American Sign Language or interpreting will be considered.
  • The candidate must have strong memory and real-time processing ability.
  • The candidate must be able to interpret technical or complex subject matter.
  • Experience working as a sign language interpreter in educational settings is required.
  • The candidate must demonstrate professionalism and confidentiality.
  • The candidate must be fluent in American Sign Language and English.
  • The candidate must have a strong understanding of Deaf culture and professional interpreter ethics.
Responsibilities
  • Interpret spoken English into American Sign Language and vice versa.
  • Provide interpretation services in educational, medical, clinical, or office environments.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards.
  • Research subject matter in advance when technical or specialized terminology is involved.
  • Use strong listening skills, memory retention, and clear expressive signing during interpretation.
  • Collaborate with staff and clients to ensure effective communication access.
Desired Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree is preferred in American Sign Language, Sign Language Interpreting, Communications, English, or a related field.
  • Cultural competency and sensitivity are preferred.
