Key/Essential Functions & Responsibilities

• Provides medical oversight of all California programs, including residential, START and Community Based Forensics (IITS), supporting children and adults with I/DD and mental health or behavioral health needs.
• Actively engages with the Clinical Team to create, update and manage medical, psychological and social plans for the people we support (PWS) and medications for residential PWS, including medication management, prescribing and developing and implementing Health Care Plans.
• Provides consultation to all disciplines for complex cases and in emergency situations, including case consultations for START clinical team and therapeutic in-home coaching services.
• Reviews health needs, completes assessments, provides recommendations and follows up, as appropriate.
• In collaboration with the clinical team, reviews referrals for START and residential services to determine medical necessity and potential new admissions to determine medical/psychiatric oversight and treatment needs.
• Interprets lab and imaging results and utilizes findings to inform treatment plans, as needed.
• Liaises with other/external PWS physicians, including treating physicians (e.g. primary care, psychiatrists, pediatricians, etc.) of individuals supported by START and IITS or with hospitals regarding treatment of PWS to inform practice and provide recommendations, when necessary.
• Provides on-call services for any urgent/immediate needs including medical phone triage or emergency prescriptions, in consultation with residential programs, as required.
• Reviews treatment plans and assesses all persons treated at least annually and when there are any substantive changes to an already approved treatment plan or changes in level of care.
• Provides education and training to California YAI teams, as necessary.
• Participates in recurring team meetings/Didactics when requested and provides recommendations.
• Participates in monthly Community Education Trainings (CETs) including supporting the Clinical Director with training, multidisciplinary assessments, recommendations and treatment planning.
• Assists with the collection of assessment data and analyzes data with the assistance appropriate clinical teams.
• Participates in regular START network learning opportunities including quarterly Medical Director Practice Group sessions.

• Performs all other duties, as assigned.

Salary Range $250,000 - $300,000

Minimum Qualification Requirements including education, experience, licensure/certification, etc. and essential physical capabilities (e.g. lifting, assisting lifting, standing, etc.)

• Current license to practice medicine in the State of California (M.D. or D.O.); and
• Board certified or board eligible in pediatrics, adult medicine, neurology, psychiatry, family practice medicine, or internal medicine by the American Board of Medical Specialties; and
• Extensive experience treating individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), specifically cooccurring behavioral/mental health diagnoses.
• Requires occasional travel across California region

Preferred Qualification Requirements (desired requirements beyond MQRs above)

• Extensive clinical experience, fellowship(s) and/or board certification or eligibility in pediatrics, adult medicine and/or psychiatry
