The Job:
As a R&D Test Technician, you’ll be part of our Hand Tools & Storage team working as an onsite employee. The R&D Technician will have the responsibility to provide a wide range of technical/testing support for the R&D Product Development Team. This will facilitate the development of new products, improvement of existing products, manufacturing processes and testing methods. The primary focus will be in the assessment of products within the Abrasives category (including Bonded and Coated Abrasives, Wire Wheels, and Diamond Blades) by providing accurate and timely product performance data generated from both automated test rigs and manual test methods. There will be close coordination with the engineering, manufacturing, and sales/marketing teams, as well as our customer base. You’ll get to:
- Set-up and conduct R&D product tests (per ISO procedures) on Industrial abrasive testing equipment and, as Business needs dictate, additional Hand Tool / Power Tool Accessory / Band Saw test machines.
- Ensure the effective capture of all test data (and critical product performance observations) using automated test data collections systems.
- Analyze test data, develop test reports and distribute to cross functional team for review.
- Support R&D Engineering efforts by using basic engineering theory to suggest potential solutions to issues encountered in product development programs – while maintaining strict “company confidential” directives.
- Establish testing prioritization and provide an estimated completion schedule to cross functional teams.
- Conduct product Pre/Post-test measurements as needed using various gages and QC Lab equipment.
- Support the development and revision of test protocols, the building of prototypes and maintain prototyping equipment (i.e. operate prototype equipment).
- Manage R&D test material and product inventories (i.e. Purchasing, inventorying, manipulation/storage of test material using both hoists and hydraulic lifts).
- Provide support, as needed, to Engineering/Sales personnel during customer/associate training sessions.

- Associate degree in technical discipline or equivalent years in an industrial environment.
- Able to contribute both independently and in team environments.
- Possess a technical aptitude, problem solving skills, conflict resolution abilities. prioritization mastery, and demonstrated leadership.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel required) and Outlook email.
- Basic machine, grinding and/or cutting tool knowledge.
