The Technical Design Manager will focus on building science and construction methods while maintaining and updating architectural details, specifications, and standards. This role will require knowledge of architectural assemblies, construction techniques, industry standards, and emerging technologies. In addition, this role requires a fundamental understanding of building code requirements across all building systems.
The Technical Design Manager supports the development, education, and implementation of firmwide architectural standards. This individual works closely with architectural project teams at each phase of the design process to ensure technical quality and firm standards are consistently achieved across various project types. With the support of Senior Project Managers and architects, the Technical Design Manager will support the development of firmwide architectural project delivery standards, including quality control and assurance.
The Technical Design Manager’s responsibilities include assisting team leadership with the creation of standardized technical content, templates, and details that are usable across multiple project types. Collaboration with BIM leaders will be required.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and modernize architectural details.
- Maintain and improve project delivery guidelines for firm-wide use.
- Assist with technical and code review of construction documents before all formal issuance of drawings.
- Assist with the development of a firm-wide strategic outline for project delivery.
- Coordinate with project teams to streamline project deliverables and help develop solutions for complex conditions.
- Coordinate with studio directors and project managers to understand and develop project-specific goals.
- Support educational efforts to train architectural staff about building systems, building science, and code requirements.
- Research and develop emerging technologies and advances in the industry.
- Research and create innovative approaches to building design and documentation.
Position Requirements
- Professional Degree in Architecture.
- A professional Degree in adjacent building science & technology is preferred but not required.
- Architectural Registration is preferred but not required.
- Minimum 6-8 years of professional experience managing technical projects.
- Knowledge of various construction systems, including single-family residential, commercial, and institutional typologies.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability and willingness to mentor and train staff across multiple disciplines.
- Experience with managing and collaborating in an MS 365 team environment.
- Expert ability to model, draft, detail, and deliver projects in Revit.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD, Enscape, Rhino, Sketch-up, and 3DS Max required.
- Knowledge of Bluebeam is required.
- Knowledge of the Adobe Suite is required.
