Requirements
  • Experience in combined-cycle or simple-cycle power plant construction and/or heavy construction.
  • An Associate's degree, or a high school diploma/GED with 15 or more years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.
  • The ability to work lawfully in the United States without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future.
Responsibilities
  • Provide single-point field accountability for all aspects of capital power generation or related projects with total installed values of $100 million to $3 billion.
  • Ensure project field success factors are met, including scope, schedule, cost, quality, environmental compliance, safety, communications, security, and integration.
  • Provide leadership, management, direction, coordination, and control of project execution in accordance with established policies, procedures, systems, and requirements.
  • Manage and provide leadership oversight to internal and external organizations supporting project construction, including engineering, project controls, estimating, supply chain, legal, environmental health and safety, quality assurance and quality control, operations, security, and transmission.
  • Manage matrixed members of the site construction team daily, evaluate project teams appropriately, and manage performance.
  • Manage and assist with schedule formation and monitoring, cost control measures, start-up and commissioning plans or site readiness, and integration processes across construction, start-up and commissioning or site readiness, operations turnover, and warranty oversight.
  • Assist with updating and enforcing the Project Execution Plan, including project objectives, stakeholders, scope, roles and responsibilities, assumptions and constraints, deliverables, work breakdown structure, schedule, contractor and supplier strategy, budget, lessons learned, risk, quality, safety, environmental, security, integration, communications and reporting, change management, and project closeout plans.
  • Manage project deficiencies affecting cost, schedule, performance, environmental compliance, safety, and quality, including potential change orders, change orders, requests for information, nonconformances, contractual disputes, and scope gaps.
  • Provide daily contract management oversight and ensure adherence throughout the project for equipment, services, engineering, procurement, construction, consulting, and staff augmentation contracts.
  • Oversee field engineering and construction activities, monitor engineering and construction plan performance, implement corrective actions when appropriate, and identify and mitigate risks affecting safety, cost, schedule, performance, quality, or environmental compliance.

Duke Energy cuts Eastern NC and Asheville rate increase from 15.1% to 9.3%

Duke Energy Progress has agreed to reduce its proposed rate increase for customers in eastern North Carolina and the Asheville area from 15.1% to 9.3% over two years. The average residential customer will pay an additional $9.62 per month starting January, plus $5.89 more beginning January 2028. The settlement also caps Duke's return on equity at 9.8%. This follows significant pushback from state leaders and customers after Duke Energy reported $5 billion in profits in 2025 and over $1 billion in net income last quarter. The North Carolina Utilities Commission will review the proposal starting 11 August, with a final decision expected this autumn. Duke Energy Carolinas previously lowered its rate increase to 9.5%. Both Duke utilities will merge into one by 1 January 2026.
