Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. person
  • Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts and significant experience in regulatory licensing
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Experience running interference studies for coordination purposes using Visualyse, MATLAB, STK, or equivalent tools
  • 4+ years of previous satellite licensing and/or engineering experience
  • Experience working with engineers or in a technical/aerospace environment
  • Experience with problem-solving and working with people of all levels
  • Advanced experience with Google Suite and Microsoft Office, especially Sheets/Excel and Slides/PowerPoint
Responsibilities
  • Prepare domestic and international regulatory licensing documents
  • Lead spectrum coordination efforts with government and non-government spectrum users
  • Assist with the drafting and review of internal processes and procedures for license compliance
  • Align with engineering, launch and manufacturing teams on necessary inputs for regulatory licensing and spectrum coordination
  • Draft and prepare filings for government agencies, including license applications, regulatory notifications, scheduled reporting, and rulemaking comments
  • Represent Planet’s interest in relevant ITU preparatory and working meetings
  • Conduct interference analysis to support licensing, coordination, and policy efforts, including for FCC and ITU satellite filings, US and international ground station filings, coordination, and ITU-R spectrum policy engagement
  • Analyze proposed new laws and regulations for implications to Planet’s global business
  • Record-keeping retention and organization

  • Experience in U.S. domestic and/or ITU NGSO satellite licensing and policy
  • Experience using ITU software to generate filings
  • Experience in ITU-R working party and WRC engagement
  • Experience in a legal environment
  • Experience reading and interpreting regulations
  • Experience working in a dynamic environment

Planet captures high-resolution satellite images of the Earth's surface using a fleet of small satellites called Doves. These satellites provide near-daily, 8-band imagery, allowing clients to monitor environmental changes, manage natural resources, plan urban developments, and respond to disasters. Clients, which include government agencies, environmental organizations, and businesses, subscribe to access Planet's extensive library of images and data analytics tools. This subscription-based model ensures consistent revenue as clients require updated imagery for their operations. Planet also offers customized solutions for specific image requests and educational resources through Planet School to help users effectively utilize their platform. The company's goal is to lead in the geospatial intelligence market by providing timely and detailed satellite imagery to support various applications.
