Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Must obtain within six months of hire a phlebotomy certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology, National Phlebotomy Association, American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians, or a certification program requiring at least 100 patient collections.
  • Strong computer proficiency is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple priorities is required.
  • Excellent phlebotomy skills with pediatric and geriatric patients are required.
  • Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision in all laboratory areas and duties is required.
Responsibilities
  • Support patient registration and apply third-party reimbursement requirements and regulations.
  • Perform laboratory startup duties before opening.
  • Add tests, handle recollects, process orders, manage insurance documentation, collect patient payments, and provide laboratory results to patients and physician offices.
  • Perform drug-screen collections and handle verbal orders, ambiguous orders, panic results, and STAT results according to protocol.
  • Identify patients, verify orders and requisitions, perform peripheral intravenous insertion and venipuncture, prepare and label specimens, and complete draw documentation.
  • Provide phlebotomy services to physician offices for special procedures and family practice when needed.
  • Prepare reports, process billing information and charges, maintain requisition files, work outstanding-test and error logs, retrieve and transmit results, and complete mail-outs.
  • Process specimens by spinning them down, checking for fibrinogen and clots, pouring off specimens for special transport tubes, preparing courier shipments, and distributing STAT specimens according to protocol.
  • Perform clean-outs in Flex-e Suite.
  • Maintain accurate inventory, monitor supply levels, order supplies, and distribute supplies to remote laboratories and patients with instructions.
  • Use Intergy, Flex-e Suite, LCM, Clinicians, Labcorp, Quest, and laboratory information systems to register patients, manage insurance information, create requisitions, retrieve and transmit results, and print reports and work lists.
  • Maintain punctual attendance and comply with Orlando Health policies and applicable federal, state, and local standards.
  • Maintain an organized and clean work area, manage office supplies and phone service status, and perform related duties as assigned.
  • Travel to different Florida Medical Clinic work locations when requested.
  • Work flexible hours to meet department needs and maintain positive customer-service relationships.

Florida cancer centre opens 31,000 sq ft St Petersburg facility with on-site imaging

Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute has opened a new 31,000-square-foot facility at Orlando Health Institute Square in St. Petersburg, expanding cancer care access in Pinellas County. The location at 725 6th Ave South features 18 private exam rooms, 47 infusion chairs and on-site PET/CT imaging.
