JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Payroll Section is responsible for processing payroll for all civilian and uniformed members of service for the NYPD.

The Payroll Section is seeking two Bookkeepers, III who will perform professional accounting work.

The duties and responsibilities of the first position are:

- Processing death benefits for members of the service
- Processing direct deposits with FISA-OPA
- Processing stop checks
- Conduct Payroll presentations for new hires
- EFT Stops - Biweekly
- LODI
- Uniform Allowance
- W2 Request
- EFT Overrides for members preparing for retirement
- Special Projects
- Preparing Bi-Weekly Pay reports
- As needed, assist with walk-ins

The duties and responsibilities of the second position are:

- Payments for last days worked before Temporary Leave including childcare, sick leaves, FMLA leave, military, and suspension.
- Process payments as Supplemental Checks when necessary.
- Mid-week pay adjustments for Civilian MOS including new appointments, provisional appointments, reassignments and reinstatements.
- Mid-week salary changes pay adjustment for Civilian MOS including promotions, upgrades, maturation, title change, demotion and salary adjustments.
- Researches and prints reports from PMS, RMDS, PI, City Time and CHRMS for all above Assignments.
- Process Anticipatory week request through City Time.
- Reviews, Corrects, and Files all work processed.
- Receives and process inquires via phone, E-mail, and in Person.

HOURS/ SHIFT:
Flexible; Monday to Friday with Remote Work from Home 1 Day/ Week

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Must be available to perform overtime as requested and/or needed based on deadlines and/or projects.
Must be willing to be cross trained and work as a team.

Qualifications

(1) Completion of 30 semester credits from an accredited college or university, accredited by regional, national, professional or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), including 6 credits in accounting; or
(2) A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State’s Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization, and two years of satisfactory full-time bookkeeping experience; or
(3) A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above. College education may be substituted for experience in "2" above on the basis that 15 semester credits from an accredited college may be substituted for each year of required experience. However, all candidates must have a high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and either 6 semester credits in accounting from an accredited college or 6 months of experience as described in "2" above.
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level III individuals must have, in addition to meeting the minimum requirements, at least one year of experience as a Bookkeeper (40526) or at least four years of satisfactory full-time bookkeeping experience.
