As Vice President of Engineering, you will lead high-performing technical teams working at the forefront of the applied machine learning in investment management. Your teams are responsible for the platforms and software powering our research and production trading systems. Working with the Chief Technology Officer, you will design and deliver improvements that dramatically increase researcher efficiency, shorten productization timelines, and maintain production reliability. This role requires a proven track record in hiring, managing, and motivating bright engineers, while fostering a culture of collaboration, rigor, quality and innovation.
You will bring direct experience deploying large-scale improvements to existing systems. You are collaborative and service-minded – you dedicate yourself to the success and growth of your teams and delivering on your objectives. You will lead teams focused on a wide array of technical domains including data engineering, machine learning systems, trade monitoring and execution, post-trade operations, and core infrastructure. You will make a difference; through your technical leadership you will be an integral part of establishing a new standard in systematic trading.

Responsibilities
- Develop a solid understanding of Voleon’s business to shape the Engineering organization to meet our goals
- Help establish, refine, and execute Voleon’s technical vision
- Partner with engineers to drive improvements to our infrastructure, automating and simplifying research and production workflows
- Scale, foster, and manage high-performing software teams
- Manage teams working with Python, R, Go, and C++
- Have visibility and influence across our entire Research and Development division
- Collaborate with engineers and leadership to reach consensus on technical and people decisions
- Communicate effectively across the organization to drive progress towards tangible outcomes
- Manage decisions around organizational realignments and people management including hiring, promotions, and performance management
Requirements
- History of delivering foundational changes to production platforms, while balancing ongoing product and technical work
- Demonstrated management of 40+ engineers and technical managers working on multiple key initiatives
- Significant experience with end-to-end ML workflows across data, models, and software
- Strong technical and management depth at the interface of ML research and engineering processes
- Understanding of ETL and machine learning production pipelines
- Experience evolving a software engineering organization to adopt new systems and best practices
- Proven ability to hire and manage exceptional engineers and technical managers
- Direct experience with infrastructure engineering, including on-prem and cloud computing, build systems, test tooling, and large-scale job orchestration
- Ability to prioritize tasks and remain highly organized to keep projects on schedule
- Experience leading multiple cross-functional projects simultaneously
- A technical background allowing you to support your teams, draft designs, and advocate for solutions
The base salary range for this position is $200,000 to $300,000 in the location(s) of this posting. Individual salaries are determined through a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and geography. Base salary does not include other forms of total compensation such as bonus compensation and other benefits. Our benefits package includes medical, dental and vision coverage, life and AD&D insurance, 20 days of paid time off, 9 sick days, and a 401(k) plan with a company match.
