Requirements
  • A Master’s degree in Counseling and Guidance, Social Work, Counseling, Clinical Psychology, or another specialty related to the job function.
  • Practical or field placement experience relevant to college counseling, or supervised experience related to the job function.
  • Clinical competency in multicultural counseling.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Adherence to the Ethical Principles and Code of Conduct for the relevant Texas State Licensing Board and all relevant laws of the State of Texas.
  • Eligibility for licensure as a Texas Licensed Professional Counselor-Associate, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Masters Social Worker, or Licensed Clinical Social Worker, with licensure maintained for continued employment.
  • Ability to travel and work beyond normal office hours.

Responsibilities
  • Provide individual and group counseling for personal, academic, and career concerns.
  • Engage in counseling-related activities including case management, mental health and related seminars, test administration and interpretation, record maintenance, and referral.
  • Provide crisis intervention services and consult with the director about crisis situations.
  • Engage in program development, educational outreach, psychoeducational programming, and evaluation activities.
  • Perform duties and responsibilities in accordance with ethical and professional standards and state laws.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in and across the institution.
  • Consult with faculty and staff regarding counseling services for students.
  • Engage in professional development activities to enhance professional skills and maintain counselor licensure.
  • Provide service to the university through committee involvement.
  • Use computer technology to support the counseling function.
  • Contribute to the effective team management of relevant problems, issues, and opportunities.
  • Assist in overseeing outreach efforts, including developing materials for educational and training programs targeting mental health and wellness issues and for classroom and conference presentations.
  • Assist in overseeing and guiding the daily activities of assigned counseling or social work practicum and internship students, and co-facilitate case supervision and educational training for them.
  • Assist with establishing and collaborating with community partnerships on and off campus.
Desired Qualifications
  • Three years of experience in counseling or a related field.
  • Experience counseling in a college counseling center.
  • Experience in career counseling and alcohol or drug use counseling.
  • Successful experience developing and presenting mental health seminars.
  • Successful work experience counseling all segments of a college campus population.
