Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Two years of experience in a legal or related field are required.
  • An associate degree in business/office management, secretarial sciences, or a related legal field is preferred.
  • Experience with database and document management systems is preferred.
  • Experience related to general litigation and legal processes is preferred.
  • Advanced experience in Microsoft Office and Adobe is preferred.
  • Good verbal and writing skills are required.
  • The ability to proofread and edit documents is required.
  • Good organizational skills are required.
  • Basic computer knowledge and the ability to operate standard office software are required.
  • The ability to adapt and reprioritize tasks in a changing environment is required.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize while working independently are required.
  • The role requires prolonged periods of sitting, manual dexterity when operating standard office equipment, and lifting no more than 10 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Provide a wide range of support to the WVUHS litigation team.
  • Serve as the key point of contact and manage calendars and travel when necessary for the Associate Litigation Counsel.
  • Communicate timely and professionally with internal WVUHS departments regarding legal matters.
  • Prepare documents for signature and coordinate their execution and mailing or electronic filing.
  • Monitor and maintain management information for the WVUH Legal Services Department.
  • Maintain the departmental filing system and files to ensure timely access to accurate information.
  • Complete projects related to organizing documents, filing systems, and litigation matters.
  • Create and organize information and generate reference tools for office use.
  • Circulate litigation documents to team members and other stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Support the WVUH Legal Services Department, including other counsel and staff as needed.
  • Train personnel in litigation databases as directed.
  • Organize and track files for important case documents, including pleadings and voluminous discovery documents, and create and maintain files in electronic case management databases.
  • Obtain and assist with reviewing discovery materials and other court filings.
  • Search legal records collected in computer databases.
