Requirements
  • Possession of a high school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Paramedic certification, to be obtained in 30 days of hire
  • West Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services Paramedic Certification, to be obtained in 30 days of hire
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Emergency Vehicle Operations Course or ability to successfully complete within six months of hire
  • Valid Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (American Heart Association preferred), to be obtained in 30 days of hire
  • Valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support (American Heart Association) certification, to be obtained in 30 days of hire
  • Advance Medical Life Support (ALS) Certification (AMLS), obtained within 6 months of hire and renewed within 2 years of certification date
  • Infant/Child Transport Life Support (ITLS) or Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) certification obtained within the last 2 years (obtained within 6 months of hire and renewed within 2 years of certification date)
  • Pediatric Emergency Pharmaceutical Protocol (PEPP) certification obtained within 6 months of hire and renewed within 2 years of certification date
  • Cardiac-Care Intensive/Integrated First Response Training (C3IFT) certification obtained within 6 months of hire and maintained
  • Successful completion of National Incident Management System (NIMS) within 1 month of hire (IS 700, IS 100, IS 200, IS 800)
  • One year of experience as a field Emergency Medical Services provider (EMT, Advanced EMT, or Paramedic)
Responsibilities
  • Safety Culture: The Paramedic will lead by example to ensure that all activities performed while on duty are done in a manner to ensure the safety of Mon EMS personnel, patients, and the community.
  • Quality Assurance – Readiness: Ensures in-service vehicles, supplies, controlled substances, and equipment have been thoroughly checked and documents discrepancies to the appropriate supervisory officer.
  • Work Attitude: The Paramedic will take the initiative to complete work assignments without prompting and maintain a high level of energy and optimism.
  • Acting with Integrity: The Paramedic will follow ethical standards, maintain patient confidentiality, be accountable for actions, and uphold integrity.
  • Communication: The Paramedic will communicate effectively with coworkers, patients, customers, other emergency responders, dispatchers, and healthcare professionals.
  • Problem Solving: The Paramedic will use current information to make educated decisions and understand basic analytical decision making for clinical and operational excellence.
  • Executing Tasks – Response: Respond to all requests in a timely and efficient manner, with specific response time expectations from dispatch to unit and arrival times for transports.
  • Executing Tasks – Patient Care: Provide patient care based on current EMS protocols, internal benchmarks, and evidence-based practices.
  • Quality Assurance – Documentation: Complete and review patient care and billing documentation for completeness and accuracy prior to end of shift.
  • Quality Improvement – Competency & Education: Complete mandatory education, competency programs, and simulations in a timely fashion.
  • Managing Significant Incidents: Respond to multi-patient incidents and act as an Incident Command System officer as appropriate.
  • Civic Responsibility: Understand the value of giving back to the community and advocate for patients while maintaining lawful and policy-compliant behavior.
  • Social Knowledge: Understand cultural diversity, local demographics, ethics considerations, and comply with laws and regulations while maintaining fair conduct.
  • Work Habits & Attitudes: Take initiative to complete jobs and projects, maintain cleanliness, and contribute to Mon EMS duties.
  • Motivating Others: Align with the organization’s mission and values and provide supportive clinical decision information to colleagues.
  • Learning: Demonstrate continuous learning and educate others when appropriate.
Desired Qualifications
  • Associate, Bachelor, or Graduate level degree from a regionally accredited post-secondary educational institution
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Global Emergency Medical Services (GEMS)
  • Other relevant prehospital certifications
  • Two years of experience as a field provider at the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician or paramedic level
