Requirements
  • Graduation from high school or a General Education Development (GED) certificate, plus two years of general office experience including at least one year of secretarial experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Transcribe complex information utilizing a Dictaphone.
  • Have good knowledge of office procedures.
  • Have knowledge of English spelling, grammar, and punctuation, and of word-processing, database, or spreadsheet software packages.
  • Operate a personal computer, typewriter, and basic office equipment, and type 45 words per minute with no more than seven errors.
  • Accurately enter data and file information; understand and follow verbal and written instructions; transcribe machine dictation; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, County employees, and the general public.
  • Secure and maintain a favorable background investigation from the Bexar Criminal District Attorney's Office.
  • Clear a pre-employment physical.
  • Be available to work more than 40 hours during the workweek when required.
  • Work indoors, remain stationary, operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, communicate accurately, and occasionally move items weighing up to 10–15 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Type moderately complex letters and memoranda using a personal computer, typewriter, or word processor.
  • Maintain statistics and develop reports.
  • Enter and update data on a personal computer or CRT using spreadsheet or database applications.
  • Answer the telephone, route calls, and take messages using some discretion.
  • Develop and maintain files.
  • Access and file information.
  • Open and distribute mail.
  • Copy information and distribute it to the appropriate location.
  • Respond to general questions and complaints regarding the department or work.
  • Order and maintain supplies when required.
  • Perform related duties as required.
