Requirements
  • Graduation with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in Business or Public Administration or a related field, plus four years of experience in a professional or administrative capacity. Experience may substitute for education up to a maximum of four years.
  • Knowledge of applicable processes, techniques, and methods.
  • Knowledge of City practice, policy, and procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative support to the Complaint Division of Austin Police Oversight in everyday operations.
  • Complete intake of administrative complaints received from community members by phone, email, and online forms regarding interactions related to police misconduct.
  • Collect, organize, and interpret data in support of quarterly meetings and yearly reports regarding the Complaints Division.
  • Monitor the Austin Police Oversight resource account, manage the division calendar, respond to communications from community members or other departments, and route communications to appropriate staff.
  • Provide administrative support on highly technical or specialized projects.
  • Facilitate the handling of time-sensitive requests such as Open Records Requests, Citizen Action Forms, Request for Council Action documents, and other confidential documents.
  • Verify the accuracy and completeness of critical documents such as Public Information Office requests, records, correspondence, and regulations.
  • Open, sort, read, prioritize, and route incoming mail, including faxes and emails.
  • Prepare memos, letters, and other correspondence using computers, spreadsheets, databases, or presentation software.
  • Use independent judgment to perform data analysis and problem solving and recommend policy and administrative improvements.
  • Conduct research, compile data, and prepare documents for consideration and presentation.
  • File and retrieve documents, records, and reports.
  • Attend meetings, record minutes, and distribute meeting notes.
  • Maintain calendars, schedule meetings, conferences, and events, plan travel itineraries, and make travel arrangements.
  • Provide leadership, work assignments, evaluation, training, and guidance to others.

Austin Water secures $55M low-interest funding for pipe replacement and infrastructure projects

Austin Water has secured $55 million in low-interest funding from the State Water Implementation Fund for Texas for capital improvement projects. The first tranche of $13 million carries an interest rate as low as 2.895%, expected to save upwards of $1.5 million in interest over the 20-year loan period. The funding will primarily replace ageing polybutylene pipes, with $45 million allocated to address water loss from pipes installed until the mid-1980s, saving an estimated $2.7 million in financing costs. An additional $10 million will expand the reclaimed water infrastructure through the Travis Heights Purple Pipe project, connecting two service areas whilst saving approximately $1.1 million. Combined with a recent debt defeasance transaction saving $49.6 million, Austin Water's cumulative savings since 2016 now exceed $675 million.
