This position is responsible for the development and implementation of environmental programs and procedures to achieve and maintain compliance with regulatory, permit or license requirements in the specific areas of air, water, and waste management. The Environmental Specialist will be responsible for evaluating, implementing, and maintaining workplace environmental programs that are consistent with applicable regulatory and corporate requirements.
An environmental resource for plant operations will:
- Monitor programs and procedures for air, water, and waste management
- Support construction project environmental requirements
- Support technical monitoring systems and data collection
- Conduct routine environmental inspections
- Maintain environmental recordkeeping/reports
- Assist with activities involving regulatory agencies in the areas of air, water, and waste management, including site inspections to maintain environmental compliance in all aspects of environmental regulations and permit requirements
- Assist with preparation of required permits, licenses, or approvals
- Assist with submitting specified required reports to external agencies or stakeholders to meet all regulatory deadlines
- Monitor emerging regulatory and industry issues that may affect facility
- Monitoring and tracking of all relevant environmental data (i.e. waste generation, water consumption, energy consumption, etc.) for environmental KPI metric reporting and identification of trends
Essential Skills:
- The desire to exist in a dynamic environment that has a continuous improvement focus
- Knowledgeable in environmental regulations (air, water, waste, EPCRA), pollution control and remediation technology, environmental auditing
- Good functionality with PC programs including in Microsoft Office applications (Strong in Excel, Experience in PI Datalink a plus) spreadsheets and (Access) database management
- Good communication and public relations skills are required
- Must possess the highest level of integrity, honesty, and ethics. You know right from wrong and treat everyone with respect and professionalism.
- Team player: works cooperatively with others to solve problems and proactively helps others when assistance is needed.
- Experience in managing Environmental Systems and Environmental Report generation
Essential Physical Functions:
- Available to be on call as needed for Environmental and Productivity issues
- Must be able to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to read and understand technical information
- Must be able to climb ladders and stairs to access all areas of the plant that may require
Education:
- B.S. in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering. Other degrees in the sciences will be considered prefer a minimum of 3 years work experience in Industrial Environmental Systems or related field.
Experience:
- Knowledge of ISO 14001 standards, groundwater management and chemical inventory (SARA 311/312/313) a plus.
- Experience working with Air Permits
- Knowledge of The Responsible Care Management System (RCMS)
- 3 to 5 years’ work experience in a manufacturing/industrial environmental systems or related field
