Requirements
  • Completion of a certificate in medical assisting or nursing assisting, typically a program lasting up to one year.
  • Advanced knowledge of obstetric workflows, including patient scheduling, medical records management, clinical procedures, patient education, and care coordination.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification.
  • Work-related written and verbal communication, computational, computer, mathematical, technical, or health care knowledge acquired through trade school, paraprofessional, or certificate-level training.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate obstetric patient scheduling and referrals, including pregnancy confirmation, transfer-of-care, postpartum, induction, C-section, newborn, follow-up, and triage visits.
  • Reschedule missed obstetric visits and coordinate triage follow-up.
  • Send and track obstetric referrals, including ECU anatomy scans, and track follow-up ultrasound appointments.
  • Obtain patient releases of information and scan prior obstetric records, Pap tests, operative notes, and hospital records.
  • Scan and send ECU ultrasound reports and obstetric records at required intervals.
  • Maintain obstetric flowsheets and documentation.
  • Chaperone provider visits during pelvic examinations and ultrasounds.
  • Draw obstetric laboratory specimens, administer vaccines, and place patients on an NST machine.
  • Assist with intravenous therapy for hyperemesis.
  • Perform postpartum depression screenings.
  • Obtain obstetric intake histories and risk assessments.
  • Manage pathology specimens and genetic testing forms.
  • Communicate and coordinate with external providers and agencies to ensure continuity of care.
  • Communicate with ECU obstetric coordinators regarding triage and hospital admissions.
  • Answer the obstetric triage hotline and relay provider recommendations.
  • Assist providers with emergency response coordination.
  • Manage obstetric Medical Home communication with Health Department social workers.
  • Maintain patient handouts and education materials.
  • Organize and store obstetric ultrasound images.
  • Order and manage supplies for NST and ultrasound equipment and maintain ultrasound equipment.
