Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree is required.
  • A minimum of five years of experience as a classroom teacher, reading specialist, or literacy coach is required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direction, administration, and evaluation of academic programs; develop short- and long-range goals and provide recommendations to ensure alignment with the School's strategic initiatives.
  • Direct program development, planning, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum development and student learning experiences.
  • Work in cooperation with department leadership on the recruitment and assignment of faculty and the development of the master schedule for course offerings.
  • Stay abreast of accreditation standards and applicable licensure regulations and ensure programs meet compliance requirements.
  • Manage student recruitment, orientation, and advisement activities as applicable; work with community and business partners to develop educational opportunities and field experiences for students.
  • Manage grants and contracts, working with the Contracts and Grants Office to develop program budgets and monitor expenses and allocation of funds.
  • Review, analyze, and provide reporting on student outcomes assessments.
  • Coordinate, develop, and maintain collaborative community partnerships with external agencies, business and industry organizations to promote program initiatives; leverage community resources to market program offerings; participate in local, regional, and state organizations and stakeholder teams as applicable.
  • Manage and oversee advisory committee activities; mentor and supervise faculty and staff.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • A master's or doctoral degree in education, literacy, or reading is preferred.
  • A strong understanding of reading processes, assessment, and adult learning is preferred.
  • The ability to collaborate effectively with higher education faculty, state agencies, and local education agencies is preferred.
  • Experience mentoring or supporting pre-service or early-career teachers is preferred.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills are preferred.
  • Bilingual and biliterate proficiency in Spanish is preferred.
