Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Naloxone training and Basic Life Support certification are to be completed at the department level.
  • The employee must be able to push or pull more than 50 pounds to move patients or objects.
  • The employee must frequently walk, stand, sit, stoop, and kneel.
  • The employee must have computer knowledge, communication, writing, telephone, interpersonal, problem-solving, and multitasking abilities.
  • The employee must maintain patient and family confidentiality.
Responsibilities
  • Greet patients, family members, visitors, donors, and volunteers; conduct guest check-ins; give directions; process payments; provide resources and facility tours.
  • Maintain registration books, wait lists, payment processing, and computer databases so visitor and database information remains current.
  • Recognize signs of distress or personal trauma, provide support, and refer individuals to hospital chaplaincy, care management, or other departments as needed.
  • Serve as a resource for volunteers and health care providers.
  • Contact community resources and other pertinent sources on families’ behalf; provide hospital and surrounding-area information and address questions and concerns.
  • Coordinate overnight stays, including providing information and contacting LogistiCare for West Virginia Medicaid patients, and arrange alternative accommodations for waitlisted families when necessary.
  • Document important occurrences, visitor or facility problems, dates, times, and initials in the daily log.
  • Notify the Patient Advocate, Off-Shift Coordinator, Manager, or Director about accidents, problems, or unusual occurrences.
  • Report maintenance needs and restock supplies to help maintain a pleasant environment for families.
  • Assist with meal preparation, collect food donations, set up and dismantle dinners and activities, load and unload food from ovens, and serve food in designated areas.
  • Perform household chores, including loading and unloading dishwashers, cleaning refrigerators and kitchen cabinets and drawers, and doing light laundry.
  • Open and close the facility at designated times to provide access and maintain safety.
  • Support patient satisfaction and keep staff informed of potential problems.
  • Provide clerical and administrative support as requested by the director.
  • Cover as-needed day and afternoon shifts.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least 18 months of experience dealing with the public, emphasizing customer relations.
  • Experience maintaining records such as registrations, wait lists, and computer databases.
  • One year of office experience involving computers, data entry, answering phones, and face-to-face customer service.
