The College of Health Professions (CHP) at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is recruiting for a tenure-track, open-rank faculty member (Assistant, Associate, or Professor rank) to develop a health services research program.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in healthcare research and data analysis with expertise in cutting-edge research methodologies for the analysis of “big data” and a passion for improving rehabilitation healthcare services and outcomes. Candidates should have a strong track record of collaborative and interdisciplinary research and be positioned to be competitive for center-level grants. We are looking for an inspired individual who will shape the next generation of innovation in health services research in rehabilitation.

Vision and Opportunity
The vision for the new faculty in health services research in rehabilitation within CHP includes developing a line of scholarship that builds upon and expands current areas of research focus within CHP including, access, utilization, and outcomes across care settings for medically complex or cognitively impaired patients across the lifespan, telehealth, neurorehabilitation, functional and cognitive impairments, and measurement construction. This transformative health services researcher would join a cadre of experienced researchers, build new collaborations within and beyond CHP/MUSC, and contribute to the advancement of health services research in rehabilitation.

In addition, we have very strong existing collaborations with individuals and groups in the College of Medicine (COM) within a greater MUSC ecosystem that includes, among others, Neuroscience, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Psychiatry, Internal Medicine and Geriatrics, Cardiology, Pathology, and Public Health.
Competitive applicants should have a history of obtaining research funding commiserate with their career stage, as well as strong skills in fostering collaborations, expertise in cutting-edge research methodologies and design, and a strong desire to help shape the future of health services research in rehabilitation. Candidates must possess a PhD in a field related to rehabilitation science and have extensive experience collaborating with rehabilitation scientists. Academic appointment will be in the College of Health Professions, Department of Health Sciences & Research. Secondary academic appointments may also be available in the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences (e.g., Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech & Language Pathology) or other departments at MUSC, depending on candidate qualifications and teaching interests. A joint VA research appointment (need not be a current VA investigator) is also possible.

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is South Carolina’s only comprehensive academic health science center and the state’s largest medical complex. MUSC has an extensive research enterprise with 1,230 extramural awards totaling more than $300M in FY2023.
