Requirements
  • Master's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience (for either Research Project Manager - Senior Professional: 6+ years of relevant experience; for Research Project Manager - Advanced Professional: 3+ years of relevant experience).
  • Eligibility to work in the United States; Penn State does not sponsor or take over sponsorship of a staff employment visa.
  • PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check are required clearances.
  • This position requires compliance with applicable regulatory agencies (federal, state, local).
  • Experience in lab management or supervision of laboratory personnel is implied by responsibilities (leading, supervising, training, evaluating lab technicians).
  • Ability to coordinate and manage IACUC and IBC submissions and training for laboratory staff.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the Pediatric Oncology Translational Research Laboratory to ensure procedures are executed efficiently and accurately.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate laboratory technicians; foster a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Implement and monitor quality control procedures to ensure accuracy and reliability of lab results.
  • Ensure laboratory compliance with regulatory requirements and maintain necessary certifications including IACUC submissions; coordinate IACUC and IBC submissions, documentation and training for laboratory staff and research applications.
  • Manage laboratory budget, inventory, and equipment maintenance; ensure instruments are calibrated and contracts up to date; order supplies, chemicals, and instrumentation.
  • Lead, develop, and implement laboratory policies, procedures, and protocols to optimize lab performance.
  • Coordinate with clinical research sites and collaborators regarding collection and shipment of biological research materials and samples; sample accessioning, cell culture and other biochemical assays.
  • Participate in writing and submission of abstracts, manuscripts and grant applications as applicable.
  • Develop and supervise development of team members; participate in daily and weekly leadership meetings; problem solving and escalation as needed; coach and develop direct reports to lead.
  • Ensure quality of testing throughout the Lab and investigate and implement countermeasures for any quality issues; document abnormal conditions.
