NASA chose Axiom Space to develop its next-generation astronaut spacesuits for the Artemis lunar missions. These new spacesuits built by Axiom Space will provide astronauts with advanced capabilities for space exploration, while providing commercially developed human systems needed to access, live, and work in microgravity as well as on and around the Moon.

SUMMARY: Our team is looking for an energetic and dynamic Mechanical Engineer who will primarily be responsible for aiding Axiom’s Power Avionic and Control (AxPAC) team with the design and development of Axiom’s Space Suits. We are looking for an individual with a strong technical background in testing and problem solving. The role requires strong organizational, time management, and communication skills. This role is onsite and will be based at our Gemini facility.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES

• Work on a collaborative team developing AxPAC hardware for low Earth orbit and beyond.
• Assist in the design, assembly, and testing of AxPAC hardware.
• Check 2D drawings of parts for accuracy and design intent to ensure that they are ready for manufacturing and assembly.
• Participate in team brainstorming and technical review meetings.
• Provide input to Project Engineers to forecast scope, schedule, and risks for all assigned projects.
• Create presentations that summarize technical design information.
• Perform other duties as required.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
• 2-5 years of direct working experience, preferably in the space industry 
• Proficient in 3D CAD (Solidworks preferred)
• Familiarity with GD&T according to ASME Y14.5 preferred
• Familiarity with Tolerance Stackup preferred

• Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
• Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised.

Physical Requirements

• Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).
