Requirements
  • A valid current or temporary Alaska Registered Nurse license is required.
  • An Associate's degree in nursing is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, or additional certification and/or continuing education may be required based on the area of practice.
  • The role requires creative thinking, prioritizing, and flexible problem-solving skills.
  • The role requires clear verbal and written communication skills.
Responsibilities
  • Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs; review patient history and physical information; review diagnostic and laboratory data; report abnormal results; and complete assessments and reassessments according to patient needs and policy.
  • Formulate and initiate patient-specific plans of care, including discharge plans, using assessment data and input from the patient, family, and healthcare team; establish realistic and measurable goals; coordinate care with the multidisciplinary team; and revise plans as patient needs change.
  • Implement plans of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of healthcare team activities; provide care according to physician orders, nursing plans, policies, procedures, standards of care, and regulatory requirements; delegate appropriately; supervise care provided by other licensed nurses and personnel; and communicate patient status to other caregivers.
  • Evaluate patient and family responses to care and teaching, evaluate progress toward goals and expected outcomes, and revise plans of care as needed.
  • Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in patient records, including objective and subjective data, nursing interventions, patient responses to treatment, and physician orders, accurately and on time.
  • Provide care based on the best available evidence and participate in research activities within clinical practice when applicable.
  • Participate in unit or facility shared leadership.
  • Participate in education, role development, and orientation for facility personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors, and serve as a preceptor or mentor when appropriate.
  • Participate in activities that improve patient outcomes and national nursing quality indicators, including professional organization activities when applicable.
  • In some roles, supervise department staff and workflow.
  • Perform all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, and applicable professional standards.
  • Provide customers with an excellent service experience by consistently demonstrating the organization's core and leader behaviors.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree in nursing is preferred.
  • Professional certification is preferred.
  • Experience working in an acute care setting within the past 12 months as a Registered Nurse in the specialty area is preferred.
  • Additional related education and/or experience is preferred.
