- A Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training, Physical Education or a Health Related Field is required.
- A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience is required.
- Certification from the Board of Certification (BOC) is required.
- Emergency Cardiac Certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross, specifically Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification, is required.
- State of Hawaii Athletic Trainer Registration is required.
- Excellent judgment and critical thinking skills and the ability to make decisions under pressure are required.
- The ability to develop and modify treatment and rehabilitation programs is required.
- Good interpersonal skills to relate well with students, parents, coaches and other school staff are required.
- The ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, holidays and weekends on a regular basis, is required.
- The ability to maintain required certifications is required.
- The ability to travel to off-campus locations on island and within and outside the state is required.
- A valid driver's license is required.
- Provide on-site athletic training services to student-athletes at assigned games and practice sessions.
- Conduct and document initial evaluations following injuries and provide direct emergency first-aid care to student-athletes, working closely with the Medical Director and private physicians as necessary.
- Administer medical care to injured student-athletes under the guidance of the Medical Director as appropriate.
- Work closely with team coaches to monitor the health of student-athletes.
- Supervise the athletic training room facility.
- Maintain athletic training room equipment and supplies.
- Conduct training for student-athletes and coaches as needed.
- Counsel and advise athletes and coaches on prevention, rehabilitation, and treatment of specific injuries and other matters pertinent to student-athletes and coaches.
- Disseminate information regarding injury prevention techniques and equipment selection and use to students, parents, physicians, coaches and other staff.
- Travel with teams for state tournaments, pre-season tournaments on neighbor islands or out of state, and neighbor-island HHSAA state tournaments.
- Review athletic physical examinations for health information that may affect athletic participation and notify the Medical Director and Risk Management of areas of concern.
