Requirements
  • An Early Childhood Education Certificate is required, although a combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Growing Great Kids Curriculum training is an asset or the successful candidate must be willing to obtain it.
  • Certified First Aid and CPR and a Safe Food Handling Certificate are required or the successful candidate must be willing to obtain them.
  • Personal experience as a parent or caregiver of infants or young children is an asset.
  • The ability to speak and understand Cree is a definite asset.
  • Experience working with First Nations communities is an asset.
  • The candidate must possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • The candidate must be able to work independently, be self-directed, and demonstrate organizational skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide in-home support using a strength-based model to families with children between 0 and 6 years of age.
  • Teach individuals and groups about health-promotion topics.
  • Assist the Community Health Nurse in providing and delivering programs and services.
  • Advocate for families, make referrals, and act as a liaison for families.
  • Work closely with health care professionals and the Public Health Nursing and Health Team.
  • Plan and deliver workshops and community education events.
  • Develop appropriate awareness materials.
  • Administer the nutrition coupon program.
  • Provide basic infant care, infant stimulation, healthy child-development support, parent self-care and coping support, hands-on learning, and supportive peer mentoring.
  • Travel daily from La Ronge to outlying communities, including Sucker River and Grandmother’s Bay, with travel time included in work hours.
