Aerospace Corp., Google Public Sector deploy AI tool to cut satellite anomaly response time. The Aerospace Corp. and Google Public Sector are collaborating to modernize satellite operations using agentic AI, the companies announced. The two co-developed a proof-of-concept tool to help operators and engineers manage the growing complexity of Proliferated Low Earth Orbit constellations - networks of small satellites that enable faster communication and broader global coverage. As constellations scale from dozens to thousands of satellites, the volume and velocity of data makes it harder to catch critical signals. Engineers currently monitor separate screens tracking bus telemetry, payload status and ground network availability. When an anomaly hits, on-call staff spend critical minutes manually correlating data to determine whether an alarm is a genuine threat. Aerospace built the tool with Google Public Sector's Rapid Innovation Team on Google Cloud's Vertex AI platform. It fuses disparate telemetry streams into a single interface and moves beyond static threshold alarms toward predictive behavioral monitoring, flagging issues like a momentum wheel that oscillates only when a specific payload is active, before they escalate to component failure. The system also correlates anomalies with context such as recent payload tasks or space weather events and surfaces potential root causes. "This concept demonstrates how AI can be a critical operational partner capable of handling the high-velocity demands of modern space domain awareness, helping on-call engineers focus their expertise where it matters most," said Kevin Bell, senior vice president of Aerospace's Engineering and Technology Group. "Collaborations like this are an important part of Aerospace's ongoing work to build connections with industry and accelerate the adoption of innovative technologies to support national priorities in space." Cameron Groves, director of rapid innovation & specialist engineering at Google Public Sector, said the collaboration marks a milestone in bringing Google's AI capabilities to space operations. "This pathfinding effort demonstrates that by equipping engineers with the right data at the right time, we can help transform the operator experience from reactive firefighting to proactive problem-solving to accelerate operations," he added. "We look forward to seeing this transition from a concept into operational use."
Orbotic Systems has secured a commercial licence agreement with The Aerospace Corporation to use DiskSat technology for very low Earth orbit operations. The company plans to use the disc-shaped satellite platform to host its WIND sensor pathfinder for technical assessment and mission planning. DiskSat is a lightweight, flat satellite designed to optimise rideshare launches and enable cost-effective constellation deployment. The Aerospace Corporation successfully launched DiskSats last month, which are now demonstrating the platform's capabilities in orbit. Erik Long, Orbotic Systems' CEO, said DiskSat's geometry makes it compelling for very low Earth orbit operations. The companies will coordinate technical documentation transfer and interface planning, though specific mission timelines and launch services remain unconfirmed. Orbotic Systems focuses on space systems for mission assurance and space environment sensing.
Orbotic Systems executes commercial license for Aerospace DiskSat technology. Disksat Satellites orbiting earth Orbotic Systems has entered into a manufacturing and distribution agreement with Aerospace Corporation to commercialize DiskSats. THOUSAND OAKS, CA, UNITED STATES, February 5, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ - Orbotic Systems Inc. (OSI) announced today that it has entered into a commercial license agreement with The Aerospace Corporation, a leader in advancing national space capabilities, for the use of its DiskSat technology. OSI plans to use the DiskSat form factor as a host spacecraft for a Very Low Earth Orbit (VLEO) sensor pathfinder, including integration studies for its WIND (Wind Ion Neutral Density) sensor. The effort is intended to support technical assessment and future mission planning related to VLEO operations. "DiskSat is a compelling host platform for VLEO operations due to its geometry and mission flexibility," said Erik T. Long, CEO of Orbotic Systems. "This license allows us to move forward with a focused pathfinder configuration and collaborate with The Aerospace Corporation on technical planning." DiskSat, developed by The Aerospace Corporation is a lightweight, compact, flat disc-shaped satellite designed for optimizing future rideshare launches. Its unconventional shape offers a variety of new possibilities for cost-effective and rapid constellation deployment, packing efficiency, and mass distribution. Following a successful launch last month, the DiskSats are now in orbit, beginning mission demonstrations that showcase the potential of this new satellite form factor. According to Deb Salvaggio, Aerospace's Director of Technology Transfer, "It has always been our plan for DiskSat to be transitioned to industry as quickly as possible. We are excited to work with Orbotic Systems as a valued partner." The parties expect to coordinate next steps including technical documentation transfer and interface planning. Specific mission timelines, launch services, and customer sponsorship are not yet finalized. About Orbotic Systems Inc. Orbotic Systems Inc. (OSI) produces space systems focused on mission assurance, on-orbit operations, and space environment sensing. OSI's work includes edge computing concepts for operational decision aids and sensors relevant to space weather and VLEO mission performance.
