Requirements
  • Must have at least one of the following to qualify for this role: Missouri Certified Nursing Assistant license OR prior experience as a Nurse Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, Surgical Technician, Patient Care Technician or Behavioral Health Technician OR enrolled in a Nursing program and completed the Fundamentals of Nursing program
  • Completion of a state approved unlicensed assist personnel program (UAP) or meets the exempted UAP guidelines (documented proof required) or enrolled in UAP through SSM Health upon hire or if hired in Oklahoma/Wisconsin, completion of the Clinical Partner I orientation checklist during 90 day orientation/probationary period
  • No experience required

Responsibilities
  • Receives patient care assignment from the registered nurse in charge and initiates delegated tasks based on demonstrated competence in performing nursing activities for the patient age group served
  • Collects and documents data for admission assessment, reassessment and/or scheduling appointments or surgeries for the patient population, and may document and provide data to the registered nurse and/or licensed practical nurse for analysis of patient response and significant changes in condition
  • Informs licensed nurse of changes in patient condition/needs, patient complaints, and patient education needs of the patient or significant others
  • Stocks and maintains supplies and equipment according to patient care needs and cost containment; uses time and supplies economically
  • Assists with delegated clerical duties such as answering telephones, relaying messages, transcription of physician orders, and organizing the patient's medical record
  • In inpatient environment, may answer patients' calls for help, take vital signs, monitor behavior and physical condition for progress or deterioration, assist with baths, ambulation, feeding, hygiene, and making beds; perform dressing changes, enemas, ostomy care, toileting, turning, cough and deep breathing, catheter care, collection of specimens, and measuring intake and output
  • In inpatient environment, prepares patients for discharge and accompanies them on discharge; orients new patients and significant others to the nursing unit
  • In outpatient environment, manages referrals for medical and surgical specialist appointments and provides assistance in patient care to patients three years of age or older
  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safety
  • May perform point of care testing according to policies and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned
