Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Arts/Sciences or equivalent related work experience, with a minimum of 8 years.
  • Seven or more years of reinsurance underwriting experience or nine or more years of direct underwriting experience.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Word, SQL/query tools, and Excel.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and perform daily team-management duties, including co-signing cases, supervising workflow, overseeing work, developing and mentoring associates, hiring, training, evaluating, coaching, and disciplining direct reports.
  • Assist underwriting leadership as the underwriting client contact for an assigned business-development region by reviewing pricing quotes and client requirements in coordination with Business Development, Pricing, Claims, Treaties, and other departments.
  • Collaborate with Underwriting, Business Development, and CMS to manage and assist regional, facultative exclusive, SUP, and SUI teams in developing and delivering client solutions aligned with foundational resources and client-centric design strategy.
  • Work with CMS, Regional Leads, Underwriting, and SUI to coordinate and drive client-centricity strategy and ensure client communications are coordinated, clear, measurable, and tied to the original scope of work.
  • Organize and share client industry and organizational information to help anticipate needs, prepare context-relevant recommendations, and identify future expansion opportunities.
  • Coordinate subsequent client communications and interactions with CMS, Regional Leads, Underwriting, and SUI.
  • Complete underwriting quality scorecards and related documents to ensure pricing evaluations and recommendations meet guidelines and are profitable.
  • Perform data analysis for clients, senior underwriting management, sales and marketing, and actuarial departments by summarizing data in reports, comparison grids, scorecards, and other formats.
  • Monitor client-company special underwriting programs, including conversion programs, table-shave programs, requirements guidelines, and preferred guidelines.
  • Appraise and underwrite large, complex, and challenging life-insurance risks up to approval authority, ensuring quotes are sound, competitive, and profitable.
  • Make underwriting exceptions under direction while balancing client relationships and profitable business.
  • Assist in co-signing facultative cases and participate in meetings or projects as requested.
  • Develop and manage client relationships by providing underwriting solutions, identifying creative ways to solve client problems and improve business results, and communicating, negotiating, and selling underwriting decisions.
Desired Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in Science or Business.
  • ACS, ALU, FLMI, FALU, or CLU accreditation, or progress toward accreditation.
  • Ten or more years of reinsurance underwriting experience.
